Hi, my name is René, aka. Reen. I am 35 years old and a father of two lovely kids. We are liliving in germany and love to go on rail adventures. I'm a passionate train fan. The journey is always more important to us than the destination.
So, couple of times a year i love to grab the kids and go on a round trip across europe. Sometimes the misses and our dogs come along too.

Thank you for posting, I like that you put words to read to see where you are and different explanations. I would think that the train would be way too heavy for a ferry. But interesting. Um Question? Where did your dog go to the bathroom?

Before the train gets on the ferry there is 20 minutes time to walk the dog on the plattform. Enogh time for my dog.

till late 1998 there was a ferry from Civitavecchia (near Rome) to Golfo Aranci (Sardinia) that board trains (6h boat trip).

awesome. I heard some people complaining about the very dated sleeping cars, but the ones you took were obviously redone recently. caveat emptor 😊 btw what was zhe exact price? we are consideting doing the same trip but I'm still not sure whether to take the sleeper or a couchette, which I hear are relatively new and in much better shape than regular sleepers

We took the couchette on the return. It was a nightmare. The worst night train ride of my life. Really! Yes, they are modernized but the AC did not work very well, the beds were not very comfty. The great bonus of Trenitalia is that it isn't so pricy as ÖBB Nightjets can be. We paid around 150 € if i remember right on the sleeper. For those two rooms with connecting doors. And i did not even book very far in advance. 5-6 weeks i think. For a ride during vacation time a hell of a deal, right?
