See the gardens at Mount Stewart: a legacy of love cared for by the National Trust

The elaborate network of gardens at Mount Stewart in County Down, Northern Ireland, is the creative vision of Lady Edith Londonderry. During the 1920s she began transforming what she once described as one of the ‘dampest, darkest and saddest’ places she’d ever stayed into the vibrant and peaceful spot still enjoy by visitors today.
In this video, you’ll discover the story of her legacy - a magical fusion of woodland full of rhododendrons and ancient trees, intricately designed formal gardens and spaces inspired by far-flung places.
Learn how Edith overcame the challenges of managing gardens in a coastal environment on the shores of Strangford Lough and meet the expert gardeners who care for it today. Step into the past and experience the journey guests made up the long drive to Mount Stewart, now in the care of the National Trust.
