For those complaining about the twist of the story, this should remind us that we don't live life just for us. Children are heirs of their parents, just like parents are the branches that connect them to the family tree. Also each member can endure the price to pay caused by a relative once they are connected with genuine feelings. This can happen because of an uncle or aunt guilt. The wicked woman had to be aware of her ways, be forced to changed, sick in bed wouldn't have the same impact on her. Finally one can say that Dike himself is in first guilty of the such poor choice of wife. He was aware of her bad character, or at least should have take more time to know her. His own action had consequences too.

I don't understand why the main character has to be pretentious and appease the villagers or others. She should not have to be kind to everyone. She placed herself on her own high pedestal. It's not her fault that her fellow villagers couldn't see or meet her where she felt her value was at. That's their issues not hers ohh. Epitus was the evil one having letting the son to die, the daughter to suffer and the newborn to be turned into a foat. Epitus should be the one cursed for causing the death of one of their children. Epitus killed their child and does not deserve forgiveness. But nice story.
