Michelle T He doesn't have to be normal but if you see people that never had aba their quality of life is not as good. This brilliant boy probably would have never learned that piano without aba intervention.

It’s not about being normal, but being able to live in this world without special assistance. Us parents of autistic children will not be around forever to hold our child’s hand. So why not give them a chance to live life safely if we were not around.

Because in many cases it's treatable. Why would any parent choose to have a special needs child when they CAN be helped to function and live in this world and be apart of it. Not dependent on others for life.

ABA should stand for Abusive Bullying Ableism. Because that is what it is.

Small minded ridiculous comments... Anything to help a child with autism to live in the world as normally as possibly can only be a good thing. ABA is a therapy not bullying how ridiculous

Being able to live without harming others is important, but forcing a child to suppress what they need to do to feel safe and calm, even when it doesnt harm anyone is abuse.

@@aaronraines2310 and the current ABA practice welcomes that, among all therapies, if you ask me. Especially this pandemic, practitioners go for a no-touch approach. All parallel and collaborative play. It's a big development from where ABA was before. We try to re-address behaviors that are inappropriate when takin gpart in public life (ex. exploring genitals at any time desired despite the presence of tons of people, engaging in tantrums that causes Autistic individuals to do self-harm, etc.).

@@ThePandaNamedAmanda We, ABA practitioners are aware of that and that is why we are under a strict set of Ethics now. The field has changed so much and we are more on welcoming stims, encouraging socially appropriate behavior, and creating a space wherein both the individual receiving ABA and the society would have an exchange of understanding and acceptance.
