    For the screws a tip is to use cutting paste, or even a kitchen soap bar, or a candle wax to give a light lubricant to allow the screws to go in without issue. Also the wax helps if you want to remove them later, as otherwise you have a very good chance the screw has rusted slightly and now does not want to come out. Then you either break the head off, or you have to use a gas torch to heat up the screw to loosen the bond to the wood and the paint layers holding it fast. Lucky for me no wooden studs, so instead simply drilled 150mm through the frame, and into the brick wall, and tapped into the hole a wooden dowel so that the 140mm long wood screws would both hold the plate to the door, and also hold the frame to the wall, as the original nails used by the builder 60 years before had rusted away. Was fun to open that door a few years later, as the 6 lever Union lock had slip apart because the screws came loose, so I had to cut the lock bar through the inside gap. I wanted the ward pack intact, as those are no longer made, and buying a dozen keys along with the lock was expensive, but I had a few cores that I could rob the lock bar out of. Took a half hour and 2 cutting disks, those old locks have a really hard steel pair of pins in the brass, but they came apart eventually. Then 10 minutes to pull apart the lock, put the new bar in and make sure the screws were really tight, and back in operation.

    I had a lock fail on my garage door; it was a high security lock and the tailpiece broke making it impossible to open. It was a steel door with reinforced jam. I ended up cutting the dead bolt with a 7” angle grinder; I went through 3 discs as the dead bolt had a tungsten insert. Once I cut it I opened the door and the jam survives quite well. I didn’t want to drill the lock as it was a high security lock and no local locksmiths, at least the ones I contacted, could pick it. I replaced the deadbolt and tailpiece and installed a reinforcement wrap on the door around the lock and it held up until I decided to change doors. I couldn’t believe how hard it was to get in with decent tools; I definitely wouldn’t expect a quick and dirty burglary attempt to get in. The door opened out so I was never worried about someone kicking it in but I was worried about someone prying it open; they weren’t do( g that with the reinforcement plate that’s for sure.

    @@idmhead0160: Side door. 32” steel door with frame. Would have probably been faster to cut the door than the dead bolt but then I couldn’t install a new bolt. The problem was the tungsten insert would spin free within the bolt body making it tough to cut, eventually I think the bolt body just got hot enough to get some grab and I eventually got through. I needed the 7” disks due to the distance and once they wore down to 6” they wore down to wear they wouldn’t contact the bolt do to the distance and the grinder I was using.

    @SeanBZA

    @@MGSsancho If you are that worried take those 2 temporary screws out and put in 5 inch screws as well, and use them for all the holding. Through the wood of the frame, and through to the second stud as well, plus on the rest of the frame the same 5 inch screws to hold to the double studs in the wall, and that frame will not fail before the door or the wall does. Do the same screws for the hinges, and pretty much you will need a police style battering ram to go through. Though of course you will need a solid wood door, preferably one with a plywood core and solid wood cladding.
