    Update for modern houses. We only have stud walls and so my cabinet is between the wall joists crossed bolted through them. Obviosuly i had to cut the plaster board etc to fit the cabinet and then also drill additional in the sides of the cabinet. Its installed with 10 lag bolts and itll hold 2 people easily. The only brick we have is the external walls front and rear and the FAO wasnt happy with those walls. Its painted and and got a trim peice so you cant even really see it. The only issue now is that I need a bigger cabinet! 🤣

    I used 12mm anchors so needed to drill 20mm holes in the wall and had to open the holes out in the cabinet. It feels far more sturdy than when it was fixed with the standard 10mm anchors. It did make rather a large mess of the wall though lol.

    great video . I am in the exact same situation right now. Finished my probationary period at the local club, had my one-two shotgun cabinet from the SGC and about to send in my application for the FAC and amo was a concern and I might opt for your alternative eventually as it does seem very reasonable to get a six gun cabinet and use the initial one as a amo storage. I did look even at some small individual ones specifically for amo but they still seem too small to me. Anyways, thanks for for the tip. Since this post is from 2014 I assume you already got your FAC. How long did it take you to get the inspection/interview since you sent in your application?

  • @srspower

    @srspower

    9 жыл бұрын

    Yes I have my FAC now and a Browning T-Bolt in .22lr (see recent videos), I'm going to buy a section 1 shotgun soon. Funnily enough it only took two weeks to get my visit from sending off the application. But then a further 6 weeks for the license to come through. Apparently because someone was off work ill. That's west mercia although it does seem a lottery with these things. Thanks for watching :)

    ***** No questions requiring club use, being a member gives you 'good reason' for any firearm that's legal to use at the club. If I'd asked for a .338 lampua or a .50 BMG he would have asked questions though as the club does not have facilities for them and I would have to travel to other clubs to use them. He was far more interested in my level of experience shooting 'in the field' ie: had I been taken out with a .22lr or .243 hunting before? Many forces now require you to have experience to get centrefire or even rimfire in the field to be granted permission to hunt with them. Not legal though, and when I get my .243 I will demand they put it in writing so I can pass it on to BASC's solicitors.

    Question. Is there a 22lr shortage in England? I know not as many people in the UK have guns (compared to the US) but there is a serious shortage of 22lr ammo in the states. Most stores don't have any .22 and if they do, they limit only 2-3 boxes per customer. Also, do you have a video explaining the gun laws in the UK? I had to rewind the video when I heard you talking about "how much ammo you asked for". Needing to ask the government for ammo just seems wrong to me. (no offence)

  • @srspower

    @srspower

    10 жыл бұрын

    Yes with section 1 we have to nominate calibre firearms we want to own and have 'good reason' for them. And so with ammo we have to ask for what we need ie: a club member can hold many more rounds than a hunter. For this reason we don't have people panic buying ammo and there is no shortage here. Thanks for watching :)

    Depends on a few factors really. The CZ 455 is a fantastic bolt gun for the money with a really nice trigger out of the box. I used them on my probation at my local club and my Dad had one when I was a boy. But if you have the money the Anschutz 1416 is an incredible piece of kit. I am getting a 'rimfire magic' ruger 1022 as I will use it for hunting as well as for practical mini rifle competitions so I need it to be semi automatic. Rimfire magic 1022's are expensive but they are highly tuned and custom. Thanks for watching :)

    I had a firearms certificate in the 90s before the Dunblane Massacre. I didn't own any rifles but several handguns... Glock 19 (9mm), AMT 1911 clone (.45 ACP) and a Beretta 92F.(9mm). I got out of shooting in late 1995 and sold everything. I got pretty good prices for everything and since I'd bought all my guns second hand anyway, pretty much got my money back on everything except the Beretta (and that was only because it had a tiny crack on the slide) My question is, did those who had to participate in the police buy back lose much money? A guy who went to my old pistol club told me he actually got back more the he paid for with a Glock 17 that he'd bought a couple of years earlier.. Does that sound right? Thank you in advance to anyone who sees this and is able to provide an answer... it's something that I'd always wondered about... cheers

    Hi I’m going to be upgrading my air rifle in the new year atm I’ve got a sub 12ft/lbs FX wildcat mk2 & I am going to get a FX impact MK3 in high power version in .22 & the barrel & probe/mag for a .25 I know I’m going to need a FAC in order to purchase it but I Don’t want any powder burner rifles at all. My question to you is. When applying for my FAC literally just for the FAC air rifle is it the exact same process as when applying for a live fire powder burner rifle? Your time is very much appreciated. Thankyou Adam

    Do you mind me asking what your 'good reason' is for slugs? And also if I remember correctly you have a silver pigeon. Will that shoot slugs? I have a silver pigeon and a fox problem my 1022 isn't quite cut up for :)

  • @srspower

    @srspower

    10 жыл бұрын

    I have a Browning B525 not a silver pigeon. But yes it will shoot slugs fine, not that I plan to use it for that! My good reason for slugs is that I am a member of a gun club and take part in practical shotgun competitions that use slugs and I am buying a Winchester SX3 7+1 for that and vermin . I can also target shoot with slugs on the range. For using slugs on land you will struggle as the FEO will recommend other calibres to do the same job ie: for fox he would probably suggest a .223 or a .243. BUT there is no reason you can't kill a fox with a .22 or a shotgun. Just a question of squeaking them in close enough. As a boy my Dad shot MANY foxes with his CZ 455 in .22lr with subsonic 40 grain loads.

  • @Theoatob

    @Theoatob

    10 жыл бұрын

    ***** Ahh for some reason I thought I'd seen you shoot a Silver pigeon. I didn't fancy my chances as great for getting slugs for foxes. I've just not felt entirely comfortable using the .22. But as you and many others have proved, its clearly good enough. I'll make do for now and make the call for a centre fire once I've been on the game a while longer. I felt cheeky enough just recently asking for an open certificate only two years into my section 1. But they granted it. Perhaps once I'm up for renewal and older than 23 I'll go for it. Good luck with your competitions!

  • @srspower

    @srspower

    10 жыл бұрын

    Theoatob If you have been granted an open license you could maybe justify it. With boar for instance slugs are recommended if they are driven. And you can drive foxes too and call them. The only tricky area is using a section 2 shotgun with section 1 ammunition. At our club we bought a box of slugs and shot them through a section 2 semi (Tom's Maxus) see here:- scontent-a-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t31.0-8/1397389_277846952384653_2136909787_o.jpg Not bad group for 50 metres with no sights! There is no law against it but I would be doubtful you'd get them on your ticket without a section 1 shotgun to go with them. Also Winchester do a special 'fox load' in .22lr that is 42 grain rather than the usual 40, more than enough up to 60 metres with headshots in my view. If you have a lot of foxes though I really recommend getting a good caller. Then you can use number 4 or BB to easily shoot them within 20 metres or so with your shotgun, no need for slugs then!

    +Brett Duffy With a section 2 license you can buy and own 00 buckshot if you like provided the cartridge holds 9 pellets or more. In the UK our version of 00 Buckshot is called SG. No you can't make your own slugs! Unless you have a section 1 license with a section 1 shotgun on it that has slugs put as ammo. Generally slugs can only be shot at an approved range but I have heard of people getting them for boar or even deer.

    Fun fact: cut the bottom of your shotgun cartridge 75-80% around. This will cause the casing to come off with the pellets, essentially making a poor mans slug or saboted round. Absolutely useless in the UK though. Just thought id share a neat way to make adhoc slugs.

    No of course not! Section 2 covers any kind of shotgun up to three shots. In the case of a semi auto or pump it has to have a fixed magazine set to only hold 2 rounds so you have three including the one in the chamber. Semi autos/pumps become section 1 when you want more than three shots and/or removable magazines. Slugs are also section 1.

    Yeah exactly, I guess the assumption is you're just going to fill it with .22lr which it would suffice for I guess. But I will have 250 slugs on my ticket that's ten boxes! Definitely not going to fit in a boxlock! Thanks for watching :)
