Don't know what good putting that reel in the sand did ,seem like maybe go over or under it.

You are 100% correct. I was really worried about getting tangled, and I lost my composure. It's always a bad idea to put your reel in the sand, that's for sure!

I usually go with the three-quarter inch long floats, but I have had luck on slightly bigger ones. The fluorescent green ones seem to be working well now, but red seems to usually do the trick also. I can't remember the brand name, but I did buy them on Amazon. Search "Pompano float kits", and you can find all sorts of kits that include the hooks, beads, and floats that you need. Best of luck!
