    Great vid Jim. I like that you tested the results with the clay bar rather than relying on just the color change. It would be great for you to compare the popular iron removers such as Carpro, Sonax, meguar's, and Turtle Wax for a more comprehensive test.

    Good info! Thanks Jimbo! Definitely a money saver here. I just noticed that Adam's Wheel Cleaner claims on the bottom of their site for this product is safe for paint as well. I have some of that so might think about giving that a try. It is available at a similar price point after discounts (usually 20%-30%) from their site nearly all of the time.

    I also just use 1 product for both paint and wheels - but I use a falloutremover for paint on the wheels. Works just fine. That siad: My regular wheelcleaner is an alkaline and dilutable cleaner, and are also effektive on the tires. Very economical. On regularly maintained wheels, the alkaline cleaner cleans the wheels very effciently together with a brush or similar. I just give the wheels a little squirt with the falloutremover (after using the alkaline wheelcleaner and rinsed it off) once a month or so.

    What are your thoughts on Sonax "Breast" wheel cleaner? It's definitely more expensive; however, they do give you a liter compare to smaller amounts from Meguiars. It works great on my BMW M5C wheels which, gets brake dust and iron fallout in just a few minutes of driving.

    Very noticeable difference between the two products. It would have been interesting to see you spray meguiars over the griots to see how much purple showed up. Several years ago i used eagle 1 wheel cleaner and it worked really well to remove iron deposits. It wasnhard to find but was less than $7.00 a bottle.

    I was always wondering that but never intended to try lol. One really important thing, you gotta make a disclaimer for people not to use acid based ones like Mothers. That will destroy the paint in minutes. In fact Mothers wheel cleaner has tons of complaints about ruining their rims. Not saying that its a bad product, but I personally don't like it and it is extremely strong for a common consumer. I imagine there are other brands that are also not quite safe for this type of activity.

Meguiars ultimate wheel cleaner is great on everything. Its thick n clingy so it wont fall off. They also sell the iron decon in a gallon but the ultimate is a better product all together.

    Very goog info. So wheel cleaners always have iron remover for the brake dust? If it says it helps dust come off easier after using a few times, how does it do that (or is that a marketing ploy)?

  • @autodetailingpodcast

    @autodetailingpodcast

    7 ай бұрын

    Not all wheel cleaners are iron removers. Some are just all purpose cleaners. They have chemicals to break down the iron that is thrown off from the break pads. An apc is just going to use regular chemicals to break down those particles without the purple coming out, which is a secondary reaction.

    It would be safe on paint because wheels are painted. They're really making a killing off hair perm chems. :) Ammonium thioglycolate? Maybe that Griots has other detergents for dealing with other wheel contaminants and not just iron or rust (the thing the chemical is actually reacting with). Does it clean a wheel better than Meguiars? Either way, those are expensive products. (Translation: I'm cheap)

I thought Meguiars knows some big dummy is going to overspray the wheel and get it on the paint so it must be safe for paint. However, I buy Adams wheel cleaner by the gallon, the blue one that turns purple, because I use it as a paint decontaminator, as well as rim cleaning.
