Secrets of the SDCC Vykron action figure for the 30th anniversary of Masters of the Universe. Pitch

Ойын-сауық

Scott Toy Guru Neitlich from Spector Creative continues his figure by figure director's commentary on the Masters of the Universe Classics line with the 30th Anniversary figure based on the original He-Man Trio pitch concept.

Details like the care and detail on this character truly show when someone who really loves the brand and the history, not just the lore but the actual history of how the brand came to be, is behind these figures. Would be awesome if Origins did a Vykron but I'm not holding my breath.

I always enjoyed the vintage proto-type, box artwork based, and unproduced figures that were made in Classics and never understood why people would complain about these. It was fun to get the figures that we never got as a kid. But I was also a big fan of POP and New Adventure and getting a line where the figures all looked like they belonged together on a shelf.

I loved the description on the back too, that was awesome. Brutal way to go, but awesome. You also said in one of your other videos that you could use his base body for He-Ro II's second outfit, which is the cross harness with the barbarian briefs. So I decided to do that with mine. I definitely am more supportive of SDCC exclusives being an alternate pack-outs or special packaging for something otherwise available at retail or via online retailers. I swore off SDCC exclusives after what Hasbro pulled in 2018 with their Transformers Power of the Primes exclusive. That year Hasbro used their lowest-RRP SKU (US$9.99, if I recall correctly) to sell the Prime Masters characters, marketing them to children as a "collect all 13" with your pocket-money type toy. And the first 7 of these Prime Masters were readily available at retail. The 8th was only available with a high-RRP SKU, but was still a retail product and even included a wall poster for children to track their progress assembling all the Primes. Then, at SDCC, Hasbro made the final 4 Prime Masters ONLY available in an exclusive "Throne of the Primes" boxed set - a product utterly unavailable to children (unless those children happen to attend SDCC or have their own eBay accounts to buy SDCC exclusives from scalpers.) It's one thing to make adult-collector product only available to the elite super-collector, but no brand manager should make a child-focused product so unobtainable to children.

  • @EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho

I agree with you there. If Hasbro was going to advertise all 13 Prime Masters, they shouldn’t have locked Amalgamous Prime, Nexus Prime, Prima, and the Thirteenth (had to check to see those characters’ names) behind a convention-exclusive paywall. Come to think of it, Hasbro tends to be kind of bad with exclusives nowadays. The Siege and Earthrise lines both suffered from incomplete sets of Seekers, with everyone after Starscream (and Thundercracker, if we’re talking Siege) being near-impossible to find exclusives. This wasn’t helped by Earthrise being released in 2020, aka the year where COVID made everything go screwy… including toy distribution. I’m still kicking myself for not getting that Thundercracker and Skywarp pack!

@@EternityKingdomsHeadHonchoYou can say that again! Roughly 60% of the Earthrise range was sold exclusively as customised programs for various US-only retailers and the remaining 40% suffered badly from distribution issues caused by the current global health concern. The good news: A reissue of Earthrise Thundercracker and Skywarp is currently up for pre-order on Big Bad Toy Store, so we don't necessarily have to miss out on that particular two-pack. It might take a long time, but it will eventually arrive.

@@ShatteredTrousers Ah. Don't have much experience with BBTS (I still prefer the magic of going into stores and either being impressed or disappointed with what's there), but I may look into it. The remaining 4 Prime Masters and the Optimus Primal they came with were also released as part of the main Power of the Primes line in Japan, so if you don't mind importing, chances are you could get all thirteen of them.

As for the "fans," every fandom I belong to has gotten obscenely toxic in the last decade and a half. Every. Single. One. In the early days of the internet, it was all fun and supportive.
