"Exploring Lar: The Dragon Castle, Nader Shah's Mother's Tomb, and Qeysarieh Bazaar"
The Qeysarieh Bazaar is located in the town of Lar, in the Fars province of Iran. This bazaar is a precious and diverse collection of ancient architecture and is considered the oldest bazaar in Iran. It is known as the prototype and mother of Iranian bazaars, showcasing prominent features of architectural techniques from different periods - from pre-Safavid to Qajar eras. Despite the passage of hundreds of years, its structure has remained remarkably intact, displaying its resilience and strength.
This is evidenced by the Qeysarieh Bazaar and its surrounding caravanserais, which have withstood devastating earthquakes without sustaining significant damage. The main architect of this structure was Master Hossein Asoudeh, a skilled architect who, along with his sons and brothers (also architects), created this magnificent building. Today, the descendants of this great architect continue their construction work in the city of Banaruiyeh, a part of the Lar region.
Interestingly, the Vakil Bazaar in Shiraz and the Qeysarieh Bazaar in Isfahan were modeled after the Qeysarieh Bazaar in Lar. However, there is a notable difference: while the bazaars in Shiraz and Isfahan were built with bricks, the Qeysarieh Bazaar in Lar was constructed with stone.
The theories regarding the antiquity of Qeysarieh Bazaar in Lar vary. Some believe that the earliest construction of this site dates back approximately 900 years ago and it is named "Kolah Siyah" (Black Hat) after its architect. Others suggest that its history goes back 1350 years, making it undoubtedly the oldest bazaar in Iran.
The Qeysarieh Bazaar has undergone several reconstructions throughout history, with one of the most significant being its restoration in the year 1015 AH (approximately 1606 AD). Following an earthquake during the Safavid period, Shah Abbas Safavi instructed Hajji Qanbar Ali Beyk Jahromi, who was the vizier of Shiraz at the time, to oversee the reconstruction of this structure. Nur al-Din Muhammad and Banna Ahmad Siah were tasked with the restoration efforts.

Naneh Nader Shah Tower, also known as the Tomb of Nader Shah's Mother, is a historical structure dating back to the Islamic periods of Timurid and Safavid eras. It is situated next to a historic fortress named "Dragon Castle" (Qaleh-ye Azhdahāpikar) in the county of Lar in Iran.
Naneh Nader Shah Tower is perched atop a hill with its structure rising 9 meters above ground level. Constructed from stone and gypsum, it features a domed roof. According to historical accounts, this tower, likely originally a place of worship, has become renowned as the tomb of Nader Shah Afshar's mother.
The Qeysarieh Bazaar in Lar was constructed in a cross-shaped layout and has maintained its pattern over the past 400 years. Some believe its origins trace back to pre-Islamic times, while others place its history in the early Islamic period. However, what is certain is that its construction predates the Safavid dynasty. The structure underwent initial restoration and reconstruction during the reign of Shah Abbas I, around the year 1015 AH (approximately 1606 AD).

Dragon Castle is one of the significant and ancient structures in Lar County, situated on a hill in the northern part of the ancient city of Lar. Its history and antiquity trace back to the Sasanian era. Its interior sections are so resiliently built that they are referred to as "Kiani Enchantment". Until the late Qajar era, this castle served residential purposes. Unfortunately, it is currently neglected and some parts are being demolished. Nevertheless, alongside its grounds, recognizable walls still exist, providing a good opportunity for visitors.
Research conducted at this castle has shown that it underwent reconstruction during the Ilkhanate era, with its main restoration dating back to the Safavid era. Inside the castle, vaults were constructed using stone mortar and sarooj, but unfortunately, severe earthquakes in Lar County led to their destruction. Nonetheless, the foundations of these vaults can still be seen around the castle.
