Wow, thanks for the great video, Dr Okerke. I am using the GUI to copy the mesh pattern from one face to another to create identical meshes for the application of PBC in Abaqus. However, it takes more time to create the boundary mesh on the surface, offset the shell pattern, and then copy the mesh between the faces. Even after this effort, because of several circular features, the part mesh is often not generated successfully. So, again, I need to refine the edges and do the same things. Can you suggest some instructions to ease this process?

Hello, this is a well known problem. I actually do not subscribe to enforcing equality of mesh between the two faces, precisely due to the problem you describe. It works best if you are dealing with 2D problems and hence edges rather than faces. There is a different approach for dealing with non-periodic meshes and I published about this in this article: doi.org/10.1016/j.compstruct.2016.10.114 Good luck.

Thanks for the great video, Dr. Okereke. Isn't the adaptive mesh kind of expensive for a 3D model? Another question, can we apply this adaptive mesh to a damage model?

Hello @Gideon Lyngdoh, thanks for the comment. Adaptive mesh can be quite expensive, you are right for 3D models. You will only use it where you really want to get mesh refinement in certain regions in the model. Also, adaptive mesh, I believe can be used also for damage models. I do not see why you should not.

Excuse me, Dr. Michael Okereke. I have a question about Analytic field in abaqus. Can I construct the parameters of X1 and X2 as an expression in analytic field for 2-dimensional geometry? And how can I do it? Thanks beforehand.

Hello @Sothun Chhaer, thanks for the query. I believe this is possible. The parameters X1 and X2 in your query will have to refer to X and Y since the analytical fields for specifying say load has to be attached to a coordinate system. For a rectangular coordinate system, this will be X and Y. You cannot have two X's or two Y's as you have only one of either in the rectangular coordinate system. For a 3D system, this will be X, Y and Z parameters. You can then combine them the way you line according to your analytical equation. It is sort of straightforward. I will consider the request and see if I can make a short video to demonstrate this.

@@MichaelOkereke Hello Dr. Michael Okereke. I have imposed the traction force on my 2-dimensional domain and this is my outward normal vector expression in X-dir (Nx=(Y2-Y1)/sqrt(pow(X2-X1,2)+pow(Y2-Y1,2)). So I have no idea to deal with this expression in analytic field of ABAQUS. I am appreciative to accept any suggestion from you. Thank you so much!

Hello @@sothunchhaer, I am not sure if an analytical field expression is what you will need for this. This is because you are calling the Y2 and Y1 or X2 and X1 values which suggests they are different variables. Normally with analytical field expressions you have to call on X or Y at least once and it take the current coordinate nodal positions of X or Y-axis to evaluate the analytical expressions. It sounds in your case that you might have to use a kinematical constraint equation (*EQUATION) under the constraint tab and find a way impose the expression you have given in that way. The difficult bit here is finding a way to label the nodes for the N1 and N2 corresponding to X1, Y1 and X2, Y2 respectively. That is my suggestion.
