Secretly building my wife a $60 cabin
When COVID-19 locked me and my family down on the small farm, I decided to build my wife a cabin-office in the paddock without her knowing. Using whatever materials were on the property, which were gathered up piles of other people’s junk over time, and with our 6 month old daughter as accomplice, Junk Cabin emerged. What started out as a stunt to see how much secretive, ad-hoc building I could get away with, turned into the most satisfying building project I’ve ever made.

As the father of 3 girls, I can appreciate his thinking, he is absolutely right !
I'm not regretting not having a family but watching this video made me realize that having a family could be like this (having the baby with you on the project, carrying the wood on the stroller, etc), like all your videos this one again changed my perception.
While this video may be nearly 2 years old by now, it has reminded me of the passions I once had of my hobbies - working with my hands on cars, motorcycles, electronics. Anything I decided need to be done I did on my own, and as I've grown older, recessed into a pit of self-pity, paying others to do the work instead. You've reminded me that yes, I can do these things, and they are greatly satisfying. Applying yourself, having that mental fortitude - it never goes away. You just need to utilize it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

My practical skills are different to yours, but I'm good at making things and I've been avoiding it for who knows what reasons. This video reminded me how satisfying the process is too. I'm going to go and make something today.

My dad, who is a retired carpenter, and is incredibly talented, does this a lot. We have an allotment and to date he's made 2 sheds, a greenhouse and 3 cold frames out of reclaimed timber. You're not kidding when you say the quality is better than what you get these days. The shed he made looks like something you would buy out of a hardware store, and while he was making it he ended up rejecting a LOT of reclaimed timber because it wasn't hardwood. It's amazing what you can find lying about if you know what you're looking for. He's a bit doddery on his legs these days, so he moved it all with his bike. We still have one shed packed full of reclaimed hardwood. Probably thousands worth, just found lying about. It's awesome to see other people doing stuff like this too!

SO many times!
Absolutely LOVE THIS. Your wife has to be so proud that you are not afraid of work and creative.
It's insane that you built something so beautiful out of scraps most people would just throw away. Getting rid of garbage costs money too, so anything you saved that went into this project saved you money on dump runs over the years
He should have put a GoPro on the babies head I’d loved to have seen it from the babies pov 😂

I've got a great scar on my left index finger from doing that exact same thing a few years back. I think that I took more than a 20 minute break, though.

Helen “Yeah, I’d love to see the tree through the roof.....” Beau.......pretends to totally ignore what Helen said 😂😆
The fact he’s doing all this with a baby in his hands is unreal. What a beast.
Beau, well done sir. Where I grew up in the States, we would say "More power to ya" when you would say "Good on ya, mate". So, more power to ya!

At the end, I was confused because the tree was green again. I was thinking, "We're only just entering our first covid winter, how is the tree green??" Then I realize that Beau is in Australia where time runs backwards.

Beautiful project, and all the love that went into creating this cabin was magnificent. The cabin has some of the best views and sits under a tree, wow. Love everything about this. Thanks for sharing!
After watching your Retracing the Line video, I decided to start my own lockdown challenge with my Dad. In Illinois, we have a old railroad line that was converted into a trail called the Great Western Trail near our home. We decided to bike along it and it was incredible to see the old railway platforms and tracks hidden in parts of the forest that we hadn’t explored before. We biked 230 miles over the course of a month. I just wanted to say thanks for inspiring a journey that has added so much joy to my life. It is neat that on the other side of the world, there is another rundown railroad that that gives me the same opportunity for adventure that you had!

Your projects make me tear up. So glad I have found your channel. Keep the projects coming!
I have watched a lot of KZread in the last 10 years. But I think this is the best overall video I have ever watched. Your a good man and I've only watched you for 20 minutes. Made me want to do something nice for the wife. Thumbs up mate...
