Now you have to unscrew the head to change rods instead of simply opening the grips by simply pressing the handle together. Neat idea but it creates more trouble than is necessary.

To the contrary, if you have used a welding grip for some time you'd know how frustrating it is to have the electrode slip away or change direction unintentionally.. A mere hand tight on the chuck will do well, doesn't have to be tightened with a key.

The title got you the views you want but the idea is silly and a waste of a chuck you could put to better use for your welding projects and save buying a die grinder! Drill and tap that chuck to fit your angle grinder spindle and you'll put it to much better use as a weldor spinning flap wheels, wire brushes etc. There is zero logical reason to use a steel chuck as a welding rod holder. Besides poor ampacity and the large head, it's slow to swap welding rods compared to a clamp. Weld spatter sticks to steel and steel corrodes, hence the lack of steel rod holders! If you don't have a stinger the easy, fast alternative is use mole grips/vise grips instead. Tack weld a bolt to the back or side of your vise grip head, crimp a lug on your cable (if you have no lugs you can make one in minutes from a short piece of copper plumbing tubing), drill to suit and secure to bolt with a nut.

@@chandradharkoneti Left glove always on LEFT hand. That was the hand that held things in place while they were tack welded. A Also it was the hand that held the oxy cutter and was closest to the flame. If you haven't worked in a Fab shop you may not understand

You have only showed another way of doing something but how is this better? Reinventing the wheel happens every day but the goal is to make a better wheel not one that is more costly in materials and/or time.

Its good until you get to the end of the rod . then it'll melt the rubber and you'll have to wait till it cools down to change rods cause you for sure don't want to cool it down with water
