On Today's Episode:
When you hear about influence, maybe you think of influential people or you immediately think of social media influencers. Have you considered, however, your own influence? To varying degrees we all have some level of influence over someone or something. You probably have more influence than you take credit for and acknowledge. So, how are you using your influential power and do you know when and how to activate it and get the most out of it?
Evy Poumpouras, a former secret service agent, is sharing her own strategies of influence so that you can find creative ways to connect with people and stop getting steamrolled over. Having influence and knowing how to activate that influence is another ingredient for becoming unstoppable. In the first episode of this series, we talked about confidence, in the next episode Evy and Lisa took a deep dive into the skills you need to start using your voice. In this episode it’s time to add another layer and look at how to effectively off balance people’s perception of you and better adjust and navigate to the people and situations all around.
You can use these strategies to get people to say yes, stay in the forefront of their mind, and connect in a more authentic way.
Influential Terms:
Priming: exposure to one stimulus influences how a person responds
Reciprocity: exchange of something between two or more people where something is given
Stereotype: widely held and oversimplified idea of a particular type of person or thing
Common Ground: opinions or interests shared by two or more people

Sometimes what helps me in different situations is to '' audition for the role ''. I struggle with confidence and triggers all the time, but when I '' get into character '' it's so much easier. When someone is mean/judgemental/rude, I don't care as much because they are projecting onto a canvas, not the real me. The authentic me, is for private intimate moments. I don't need everyone to see the inner parts of my soul. They don't deserve that deepness out of nowhere, they wouldn't know how to deal with it and feel overwhelmed by what's going on inside. I used to be '' authentic'' all the time and it was a disaster. I really think how we present ourselves is a choice, and only when we feel safe and in the right space should we show the layers. The world is a cold, hard place so I'm going to dress for the occasion in my big coat, I don't want to expose myself to harsh conditions!

How people see me may not be fair but I can't change what they think, it's just what is, try focusing on the version of me I can mold and highlight, and act with authority.

I can 100% relate to what Evy was talking about with her students. For my management students, I spend the first week of class priming and building rapport so I can lower any resistance they might have towards me or my class. Through this experience and my own research, I've found that the key to influence lies in your soft skills. Your capacity to connect with others and empathize with their situation and perspective. What's tricky (and also exciting) about this is that the way you go about this is entirely unique to you. What works for one person is not going to work for another. You need to experiment with different approaches to see what best aligns with your true self (and professional self). As Evy says people can see bull shit a mile away. Thanks for this video. I AM UNSTOPPABLE!

Reciprocity was definitely something I needed to hear, I give WAY too much! My husband says I am too good of a friend to my friends, and I guess this is evident because I just took a friend on vacation to Cancun. I don't know that she would do the same but now I know that I use generosity to get people to like me. I AM UNSTOPPABLE!!!! 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 Amazing takeaway was not to be "overly cooperative!!! I am always overly cooperative because I think it will make life easier for me but I have found it makes life harder at times when people think they don't need to respect or listen to you! I would definitely rather be kind than just "nice/polite"! Another great takeaway was the respect doesn't come from status and the moment you need to ask for respect you already lost it! So powerful and it shows it doesn't matter who you are and what you have done to get respect!

I recently needed a meeting with upper management of a hospital. I agreed to meet but this time in a location of my choice, not at the one staff's office as usual. I plainly told them I need to remove that aura of me going to the principal's office as if I have been a bad girl. I am not the one who answers to them. They need to answer to me as a client. They did accommodate my request and though I am so angry with them still, and so much is still unresolved, I felt much more empowered by this simple request.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE. I love the discussion about generosity, reciprocity, and equity. We all have a desire for equity, and by being willing to be generous we can appeal to the other party to reciprocate. Sometimes sharing real generosity is a big risk/vulnerability too, it puts you in the position of being “one down” to start, but it’s also an interesting way to take control of the situation because you’ve already played your cards, so if someone wants to reciprocate or not that can color the entire interaction. I’m definitely going to be using some of these methods in my trauma coaching sessions to help others feel more at ease!

I AM UNSTOPPABLE I appreciate the idea of adaptation and authenticity. People are going to make a perception of you regardless and it can be helpful to influence what people see. I’ve had that same aha moment as Lisa when it comes to understanding you are tapping in to a side of you that is still authentic but you are also adapting to the situation. I want to learn more about this to better connect with others. I’ve experienced firsthand how people’s perception of me is inaccurate to the truth and I couldn’t decipher that until I had self awareness and self understanding. I was out with friends and the majority of them thought I was of Asian decent because of my voice/accent when, in actuality, I’m Hispanic. This was a pivotal moment for me because I used to rely on people’s perception of me to tell me who I was although it can be false.

Honestly, I needed that affirmation so damn bad, cause there were so many times my monkey mind would chatter "you're being inauthentic", whenever I felt like I stopped playing the "nice girl" character to stand up for myself. Thanks for being the WISE BIG SISTERS that every girls out there needs ❤

I've noticed you can influence people by colouring your hair. The first time I went brunette after being blonde for a few years, I got promoted at work and people started taking me more seriously. I don't like how I'm treated as a blonde, overall, I think because my personality is softer, having darker hair helps me be taken more seriously. If I go blonde again, I'd definitely need to undergo assertiveness training. LOL

I AM UNSTOPPABLE. You all have truly filled me with confidence. I have struggled with anxiety and OCD for as long as I can remember, not having the resources or money growing up to get help, your videos have been my treatment and I can say now that after alot of practice I am finally at a place of peace in my life, and damn is that freeing. You ladies are so inspiring and you have inspired me, a mom of a 1 yr old, to get up and pursue my dreams. I lost 40 pounds after I gained weight from depression and pregnancy, and now I'm working on becoming a personal trainer and working in a Muay Thai gym. I can't say thank you enough for being my inspiration to get off my ass and stop feeling sorry for myself. I loved this video because I truly believe you become what you act like, that is what got me over my anxiety and OCD. I acted as if I didn't have it, and I did whatever I would do if I never had those problems at all, and now I don't fear the things I feared before. I act at peace even when I'm not, and eventually my emotions catch up with my body and it is incredible!

I AM UNSTOPPALBE I love how Lisa talks about Evy giving her the words to describe what she feels, at the part of the video when they are discussing how people see you. I feel like my brand does not match the assumptions people make about me and I am definitely going to be thinking a lot this week about what my perceived brand is vs. my actual personal brand and how I can use both in the most effective way possible.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE. I love how Evy seems to know much about compassion and empathy when talking about connection. Some people would interprete this as manipulation but only if they see it superficially. Also love the contrast between these 2 in regards to personality.

I M UNSTOPPABLE My takeway from this particular episode would be how to project our own brand. Its necessary to show up in a certain way in a professional environment. We can choose how people perceive us in certain situation and we can have different versions of ourselves for different areas of our life like personal or professional.

And I was LIVING for her outfit 👠 😂 , they both can dress their asses off actually. No but seriously, fascinating video, I’m gonna watch the other ones that she is in. I AM UNSTOPPABLE and more so now that I've seen that last skit. My personality type is more like Evy's meaning I'm not so bubbly and energetic with all the body language Lisa has. I really like seeing both personalities being genuine to themselves while interacting with each other. Sometimes I feel almost wrong for not matching the energy and sometimes that level of energy is overwhelming and I want to get out of the situation as soon as possible. Connecting feels like a huge challenge in these situations but with this episode I'm a bit more open to use the Pepsi thing for example, and connect through those kinds of things so my brain isn't zeroed in on the energy factor. Through the series, Evy is her calm collected self and Lisa remains energetic yet the interaction flows smoothly and no one looks forced into another's personality. That was really the most powerful for me and I'd like to see more on this topic if possible. Thank you for the episodes so far.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE I love when you two do the show together! I have worked hard at studying and learning these techniques in dealing with people in life and business to grow and go further. It reminds of a book, one in which I am sure you will both know of, by Dale Carnegie-How to Win Friends and Influence People. I read it years ago when my dad showed it to me and several times since and began to truly admire the teachings of Carnegie. This episode and others you have done hits on those points in a modern way, and for women in life and business and I am thankful for it! You guys are badass and I have such a respect and admiration for you both! Looking forward to meeting you soon!

All I can say is thank you thank you thank you thank your for all you unapologetic and generousness that both of you show have. Especially Lisa you really really are so honest and ask questions that are so worth listening to and vital. I don't think other hosts would ask in fear of not looking confident and the questions you ask I am just like wow that's a good question and I am always eager to know the answer. I am a mother of three I've been building my small wedding venue for a couple years now while simultaneously going on nine years personal assistant for pretty well known CEO in the cosmetic industry they are great great great don't get me wrong I'm so blessed to have them they are like family they really are but it's just not rewarding . This is exactly what I needed it's like prayers combined with meditation but it's finally showing proof that I am being guided in the right direction. Thank you again. And I respect Evy so much and all the knowledge she has shared it was only right to purchase her book. Thanks again ladies. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

I AM UNSTOPPABLE! 🔥 I love that you explained priming as exerting influence to establish a connection with others rather than manipulating or deceiving. "Show, don't just say:" Being aware of priming techniques supports building the version of ourselves that we wish to convey in others' perception, which is my favorite takeaway from this episode.

I am unstoppable. At some point on my life I realized that I was continuously giving away ownership of the situations I was in with other people to them. With time, by consciously reminding myself to create balance between my authentic self and what I was willing to share with others, I eventually felt comfortable enough to claim ownership over my reactions, what I was sharing, and in turn, how I would be perceived by others. As women, we are raised and conditioned to be polite and accommodating, not realizing that it often results in us losing ourselves and giving our lives, our voices, and our image away. Thank you for another insightful episode.
