Hey Denise, great to see you! Hope things are well. Thanks for letting me know you found it interesting that the TPT SEO sees typos and synonyms differently. I guess the typo rule is how TPT search knows that math and maths, and the related / synonym rules allow TPT to hardcode that math and mathematics are the same thing. But the related words list is constantly being tweaked, I imagine, so as TPT Sellers, we really need to tinker to find out how to show up in search. Thanks for letting me know the TPT SEO Secrets menu item wasn’t showing up. The website was cached and showing the old menu. I cleared the cache and the menu link should show up now. I think "coloring"or "colouring" have the same correct spelling and this is totally different than comparing correct and incorrect spelling of "diphthongs." That is why "coloring" spellings have fair advantage over "diphthongs." This also might be the reason why TPT engineers defined that both "coloring" spellings are only one entry in the database, but they did not expect the incorrect spellings.

Hey Ahmed, those are some great ideas. I’ve had a look at the dev manual so I can try to offer some insight. From an algorithm perspective, the TPT search algorithm doesn’t know what is “correct” or “incorrect” - it can only identify how close terms are based on the number of character substitutions. So colour/color and diphthong/diphthong are identical in that they are both one typo apart. The algolia search engine seems to learn “synonyms” by looking to see what spelling corrections people make and then grouping those words together (subject, I think, to human moderation). I suspect eventually, diphthong and dipthong will be treated as “synonyms”/related words in the search engine. So, it’s not so much about humans trying to expect incorrect spellings and grouping them together. The AI looks for patterns. Having said that, it looks like TPT engineers have intentionally made a one way grouping rule for color and colour. Searching for colour shows results for color. However, in the quiz video I just posted, I discovered searching for color does not also search for TPT products that spell it with a u: colour. Either way, it means we can’t assume similar words (infer, inference, inferring, inferencing) will produce the same search results. If we really want to optimize for TPT SEO, we have to try the words ourselves in TPT search to see what the system highlights. What do you think? What have I missed?
