Secret History of Needham Market in Suffolk : Walking the Corpse Way
The secret history of Needham Market in Suffolk. How this little town isolated itself during the Bubonic Plague of 1665-1666, and thereby protected the surrounding town and villages from the disease.
In this video I walk the 'Corpse Way' and follow the route the victims of the plague were carried to their place of burial.
I also explain the weird outfit of the Plague Doctor.

True!
The wood carvings in the church are worth looking at. The pew ends are all different carvings as well as some beautiful work in the roof.

If only it wasn't locked! Been up there 3 times - it says open daily from 10am - 4pm but it's always locked! I'd love to see inside.
Funny that this video about how our ancestors avoided infection during a pandemic should have been published on 23rd March 2020, the day that lockdown for the Coronavirus started in the UK. Fascinating video though Don.

A Bleese Well spotted! I filmed it suspecting we were about to go into lockdown, about a week before. I thought it was relevant to the emerging/current situation. Glad you liked it. 👍

@@Walksandwanders Unfortunately you were spot on with your prediction. Hope you're keeping well and that they won't need to put the chains back up on the roads into Needham Market.
Never knew the path existed even after attending a wedding in the church. Very interesting.
