One of my professors at Mississippi State back in the mid-80s loved to talk about his college days in the 1950s at MSU. My favorite was his story about hitch-hiking home to Meridian, Miss., when a big Cadillac pulled off the highway in front of him. He ran up to the car as the driver lowered the power window. He said it was Fats Domino, and he said, "Would you like a ride?" He then told us about the next two hours and how much fun he had ... and how surprised is family was to see him pull into their driveway in a shiny Cadillac (yup, Fats took him all the way to his house).

I met Fats in a bar he use to come in sometimes I worked there. He would come in never sat with his back to door. We had a special table for him. He ordered Dom Perrignion . He requested that I personally poured his wine when he needed a refill. He was very nice, great tipper like $40 or $50. He once told me I was beautiful, he said you look like a pretty brown Indian, I should take a picture of you a put it on a Billboard in California. I blushed, he was so kind, soft spoken. His bodyguard never sat down he stood right behind his chair the entire time. He made his fortune with all the same original songs. In Europe he was a bigger star. He told me that. People hadn’t heard all his song. It was like releasing an old song as if it was new stuff

I visited NOLA back in December 2010. My Dad was there working so he flew me out for the weekend. Anyway, we ran into some locals down on Frenchman St. and they drove us up to Tipitina’s. As you walk in, there’s a bronze bust of Professor Longhair you’re supposed to rub for good luck. When I rubbed the statue’s head, water dropped on my hand! I looked up and around…no water coming from anywhere. Even the local guy we were with saw this happen and thought it was strange!! I looked up Prof. Longhair and it was his birthday on that exact day! Awesome venue and awesome video! The Katrina Museum where Fat’s piano resides is a must see🥰🙏🏻✨

I recently saw an interview with Fats where he said he loved Popeye's fried chicken so much that the company gave him a card that he could use for free Popeye's anytime he wanted! He said he used it at least once a week! Funny, and very cool of Popeye's!

Great video!🎵 My dad tells the story of he and my mom going to see him play. He said Fats would put on a great show and go on around 7 or 8 and play on until well after midnight. My dad went on to say my mom would be leaning on Fats piano 🎹 and just dancing away. We turned and looked and my mom’s face had turned red. It was so funny. We all had a good laugh.😂

Growing up in New Orleans (St. Bernard parish down the road) I passed by Fat's houses many, many times. Puglia's Supermarket used to be on the corner of St. Claude by his big house (the light brick one). That's the one he actually lived in. Everybody knew where he lived, but nobody bothered him. I believe he built the big house himself to his taste. The lower 9th ward is virtually all black now and is the crime capital of New Orleans. There are many, many murders there. In my youth it was a mix of ethnicities. Thanks, Jordan, for all you do.

Jordan, you have such a wonderful collection of vlogs. This one on Fats Domino adds to it greatly. Thanks for tracing down where Antoine Domino, Jr. is buried. We danced to BLUEBERRY HILL, MY BLUE HEAVEN and AIN'T THAT A SHAME at our 8th grade sock hops in the school basketball gym. How wonderful he signed the BLUEBERRY HILL 45 for you! I've been watching some of your old episodes today and just finished "The Secret PAST of Bob Barker & Delores Del Rio's HOLLYWOOD Homes." Honestly, I lived in Los Angeles for 45 years and never heard of the city area called The Outpost where Barker and Del Rio lived. "You learn something new every day" certainly fits. I hope everyone goes back and views your earlier postings. They are so worth it!

Thank you.. I used tonwatch others occasionally that went to graves, but it became real obvious to me it was all about making money off of a video for them. I only vlog graves of people that have an inspiring story, or someone that I have a connection to in some way, so I try to give an interesting memorial, instead if just stammering about nonsense while visiting every grave I can. Thats just offensive to me.. I actually refuse to watch anymore grave videos these days because it's become such a tainted thing..

@@DazewithJordantheLion thank you so much Jordan for the come back. It is devastating to watch them walk all over the cemetery waving camera here and there....talking aimlessly about whatever. Then when they get to the grave they show it from side angle or don't let you see it but split second. You can't read what it says or debri is on it which they don't brush away so you can read it. I have watchedv2 of yours. Very professional and informative. I scanned all your videos and tapped so many to " watch later"... ..that file is FULL! IM A SHUT IN DISABLED, 79 yrs old, SO WILL WATCH THEM ALL AS THEY ARE MOSTLY IN MY ERA. As a young lady in 50's 60's I worked at movie theater . Saw every one that came out many times so I feel attachment to most of the actors/ actresses. 🎬🎥🎞 BLESSINGS TO YOU. 🙏🕊✝️

You can definitely make a case that "The Fat Man" from 1950 was the first rock n roll record. I think another reason that Fats isn't thought of the same way as say Chuck Berry is because his music was piano based. So was Jerry Lee Lewis' music, but he was pretty wild on that piano. There sure is a lot of music history you can cover in the South.

His original house usta be a 2 family complex called a Shot-Gun house. If you was to stand in the front door you'd be able to see clean through the house. It's to have better air flow in these hot humid summers here. ... but on another note, I am extremely happy that you didn't get shot in the 9th ward. Nor even kidding that's a horrible section of our city.

Wow thanks Jordan.👍💯❤👏👏👏. My mom loved his records, one of the guys who had been in the army used to play fat records all the time. I think I used to hear, I found my thrill on blue berry hill. Before I knew what a thrill was. I just remember he had stacks of records. Amazing even in the 90s he was still playing those records on his record player. Sadly he's passed on. I don't know what his daughter did with his records or his record player. He used to tell me stories about how all the guys in his troop would listen to just take their mind off what was going on. If they got time off they got a chance to go into town, find a girl to dance with, that fat was always on the juke box. His daughter was a year younger than me. Watching this bought back memories. Gee I should call his daughter. I hope she kept his records. I'd buy them. Sadly mr Franklin passed in 2005. He was a nice man. Thanks for taking me down a trip to.memory lane and when music gave me a lot of happiness. It still do. Give jah a rub for me. You and Jah take care. Love, respect and positivity always. ✌🤗🕯🦋🌻🌷🎶🎹🙂👋. Fats domino house was destroyed by Katrina big time, he lost all his old school epic stuff.. I saw a video where he was inside of that same house with rain boots after Katrina hit.. he said he would never leave Louisiana I’m sure his spirit haunts that house for sure

I'm originally from New Orleans, so always good to see images of my hometown. Another prominent New Orleans musician who's interred at Mt. Olivet is legendary singer, songwriter and producer Allen Toussaint.
