🥒ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

I grown up in vietnam and still remember to this day that these monks fed me food on my way home from school passed through those temples. The monks do not see rich or poor, or ranks in society but only caring. I was 5 or 6 yrs old at the time. I saw those helpless people gathering at the temple everytime they in need of food or shelter. Without any explanation, to this day, these monks taught me the best lessons. Care for the elders, the young, and the neglected people from society. Im glad my ancestors passed down the most valuable lessons of life time. "Nam mo a di da phat. "

Well… u could have learnt these things from women (mothers) in general Only difference is that they have no social status compared to any men but everyone thinks it is their duty to take care of whole families - which they mostly do even today everywhere. Monks, popes, religious whoevers are funded by communities and respected for doing….WHAT exactly?!:) I dont think its a great achievement to give the community back a little at least and help the poor - sometimes. They help everyone from the resources other people donated to them afterall… Mothers, sisters, who silently take care of kids and the elderly and cook all the time are never thanked and never praised for these. Instead they are considered to be slaves to these duties. Nice world Not to mention the fact that the first brothels where captive women were forced to work as prostitutes had been established by priests (or monks) … After a group of people won in a battle for land they took their women and the priests sold their bodies to get even more wealth for themselves. In the name of …god. But more in the name of their own welfare. I think all the privileged religious elite want to become “chosen” cos they know they will be respected by everyone and people will think they know everything. Would be wise to think about it a little. And about the fact why religion and kings were ruling hand in hand always.. Teaching a little kid to bow in front of strangely dressed guys I dont think is awesome though looks cute. People keep strange traditions because they fear the religious dogmas and usually dont question anything which does not have any sense. Respect should not mean respect hierarchy and dont ask any questions but not to hurt the other being. Unfortunately for many people it is still not obvious and they hurt and look down or fear another person by respecting the dogma they been trained to keep above all.

@MS E I don't think you know exactly what you're talking about! For 1 they do their work for Buddha not God as you say, this is one of the oldest religions next to Hinduism! Most cultures have done something (in the past) that a lot of people don't approve of, but these are some of the most humble people in the world and a little respect is deserved, before you trash ones opinions you should look in the mirror and see your own mistakes before you're quick to judge! You should post your own statement instead of jumping into one's humble chat with nonsense and negative thoughts..🍻 🙏

@@mse5739 I’ve notice you’re not very fond of Sonny and his content, yet you have commented on most of his videos. If you don’t like what he says or does then stop watching Sonny. If you have so much free time to write seven page essays in his comment section, why don’t you go become a lawyer and put your time where it’s needed. @Tricey Trice Ok I will explain you my friend. Since Min Aung Hlaing the leader of bad military occupied Myanmar. Because they want to cont as they wish. Before that we have election day and there are alot of parties like "NLD (Aung San Suu Kyi the daughter of General Aung San), PPP (Thet Thet Kaing), USDP (General Min Aung Hlaing (Bad guy), etc... But later after election NLD have the most voted in Myanmar so NLD won. But USDP got mad so they cheat and took over the people's freedom to their hand and control as they wish. And then General Min Aung Hlaing command his army to arrest Aung San Suu Kyi, President, and NLD's descible. And until now they increase more punishment to Aung San SUU Kyi😭. So the people of NLD started to protest when they started to know that their leader (Mother Suu) was arrested and other people. So many people die because Min Aung Hlaing command his army to fire the people. They shoot people with gun, rushing to people with truck and hit them, sexual against, buried alive people but most of people didn't know that, and more. So terrorist army from each different kind of people in Myanmar like Kachin (KIA), Rakine (AA), Karen (KNU), and PDF is international army that make a larger group and collect more people who want to fight for their next generation's freedom not for themself by giving their life to save Myanmar from bad Military because UN is pretending to help Myanmar.😭😭 Until now KNU, KIA, AA, and PDF are fighting. They don't have enough equipment like gun, food, weapons, and supplies. Think it about for example they just fight what ever they have weapon that is only about like toy VS bad military with good supplies fighting but PDF, KNU, KIA, and AA win. Alot of army from bad military dies so Min Aung Hlaing command their army to fight with air missile. Is that even fair? Noo too much unfair because they have no time to run because the aircraft is so fast. They just notice the aircraft when the aircraft approach them so no time to run or hide. Still then they have to live in the forest wich there is alot of insects like mosquitoes, too much cool and have no blanket or coat to warm up themselves 😭😭. They are also people and we are also people they have feeling and we have feeling too my friend. Also you have felling isn't? Also some pure kids dies from bad military, which doesn't concern with bad military. But now it is time to revenge for them who's soul are not willing yet.😭😭 By the way please pray for Myanmar even though you can't effort them. Praying for Myanmar is only requested for you my friend. May God bless you and Myanmar in Jesus name. AMEN🙏

What I love about Sonny, and what sets him apart from the other food reviewers that I watch on KZread, is his humility. He always has a self-effacing humor about him. He never takes himself too seriously. As this video also goes to show he is willing to go to any lengths to truly immerse himself in the culture that he is exploring, even if it means trying something that appears off putting, or attempting something that affects his vanity. The moment you shave your head being a monk, even for a short period, means you pay gratitude towards your parents and teachers at least in a spiritual way. I meant if your parents were Buddhists, they would highly appreciate that gesture. And then you wonder why teachers too. It's because we consider teachers as our second parents. You spend half of your childhood life with them, they teach you life skills which you can make use later on in life, they love you and infusing all their knowledge inside you...it's practically not different from parents. 🤗 An Asian born and raised in a Buddhist country

In some ways, Buddhist monks are different across the world. Generally, monk cannot choose their food, they eat whatever is given/served when they go out taking alms. In most places where there's no shortage of food, temple kitchen do not serve meat to monks and for monks who hv been Vegetarian for many yrs, they'll be reluctant to eat meat (will not touch it). Yes, I've seen younger monks who are with their phones, modern cameras, etc (smoking in this case) but they shd be aware that these are attachments and affect their journey purifying the mind. This explains why monks on high Himalaya or Tibet mountains can meditate at higher level (also forest monks) vs monks in the city. My view ..the less attachment you have, the easier the focus is

Glory be to Allah from that which they set up (as false gods) ! He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker,[5] the Fashioner: His are the most beautiful names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His glory; and He is the Mighty, the Wise” Quran 59:22-24. Say (O Muhammad), "I am no more than a human like you, and it has been inspired to me that your god is but One God. So whoever longs to meet his Lord shall do good deeds and never associate anyone in the worship of his Lord." Quran18:110 O you messenger, deliver what is brought down to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not delivered His message. Quran 5:67 We have sent you (O Messenger) with the truth as a bearer of news and a warner. Quran 2:119 "He has ordained for you the same religion (Islam) which He enjoined on Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses and Jesus: namely that you should remain steadfast in religion and be not divided therein.” [Quran 42:13] After the corruption of the older Scriptures, the Quran came with a twofold purpose -- to confirm the true and original message of Islam, and to stand as a witness to it, by confirming the truth and rejecting the falsehood, which over time came into the older Scriptures. Muslims are required to believe in the revealed Scriptures and to make no distinction between any of them, or the Messengers who brought them, may Allah exalt their mention, because they all come from the One True God. The Quran says (what means): "Say (O Muhammad to the Jews and Christians): 'We believe in Allah and that which has been sent to us and that which has been sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and to Al-Asbat, (the offspring of the twelve sons of Jacob) and that which has been given to Moses and Jesus, and that which has been given to the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam).” [Quran 2:136] Say, "O people, the truth has come to you from your Lord. Whoever is guided is guided for himself and whoever goes astray does so to his own detriment. I am not a trustee over you."Quran 10:108 If they turn away, your sole mission is the delivery (of the message). God is Seer of the people. Quran 3:20 Say, 'It is the truth from your Lord', then whoever wills shall believe and whoever wills shall disbelieve. Quran18:29 “And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed, all of them together. So, will you (O Muhammad) then compel mankind, until they become believers?” Quran 10:99 “And the duty of the Messenger is only to convey (the Message) plainly.” Quran 29:18 "This Book (The Quran) there is no doubt in it, is a guide to those who keep their duty, who believe in the Unseen and keep up prayer and spend (charitably) out of what We have given them, and who believe in that which has been revealed to thee (O Muhammad) and that which was revealed before thee, and of the Hereafter they are sure” Quran 2:2-4. "Blessed is God Who sent down theFurqan (the Quran) upon His servant that he may be a warner to all the nations” (25:1) “Say : O mankind, surely I (Muhammad)the Messenger of God to you all” Quran7:158 Say (O Muhammad), "What thing is the greatest testimony?" Say, "God is Witness between me and you that this Quran has been revealed to me to warn you with it and whomever it reaches. Do you bear witness that there are other gods besides God?" Say, "I do not bear witness". Say, "He is but One God and I am innocent of the shirk which you commit. 6:19 “There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in taghoot (false gods) and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break.” Quran 2:256 Verily, proofs have come to you from your Lord, so whosoever sees, will do so for (the good of) his ownself, and whosoever blinds himself, will do so to his own harm, and I (Muhammad) am not a watcher over you.”Quran 6:104 “Whosoever does righteous good deeds, it is for (the benefit of) his ownself; and whosoever does evil, it is against his ownself. And your Lord is not at all unjust to (His) slaves.” Quran 41:46 Verily, this (Verses of the Quran) is an admonition, so whosoever wills, let him take a Path to his Lord (Allah).” Quran76:29 "This day have I (God) perfected for you your religion and completed My favour to you and chosen for you Islam as a religion” Quran 5:3. They want to extinguish God's [guiding] light with their utterances: but God will not allow [this to pass], for He has willed to spread His light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to all who deny the truth. After my grandmother died, I studied Buddhism for three years and became a vegetarian at the ripe old age of 21. Being half Chinese I suppose this wasn't such an odd thing to do. I was harboring a lot of pain because some very unpleasant truths came out after grandma's death. My peers were of no help to me because their mindset was on getting married, partying and college. So I had to figure out my own grief on my terms, something that in retrospect felt ahead of its time before the massive push towards mental health and self care. It was a silent and passive way of going my own way. I learned to cook vegetarian meals and wholeheartedly embraced the experience, even though I was diagnosed with medical conditions during this time and felt that my lifespan would be short. Consequently, I gained a lot of weight even though my diet was very healthy. Oh the irony... Rather than berate myself for now being chubby, I decided to roll with it, and make peace with my new body. I told myself that as long as I am eating right and maintaining some physical activity, there was not much I could do. My significant other at the time strongly disapproved of these changes, resorted to verbal and psychological abuse, and demanded that I lose weight even though he gained weight eating junk food himself. Well, I ignored him and his hypocrisy. Our relationship eventually ended, even though by then, I was in shape again. Buddhism taught me to immerse myself into life, while maintaining certain calm distance, even when I've been at the point of dying or almost killed. It also taught me greater focus for what lied ahead. I learned to lose the fear of losing my material possessions if I didn't behave. There's a lot of emotional blackmail that gets tied to money that enslaves people and makes them bitter and resentful. In the process I lost a lot materially, but gained wisdom, peace and health 🕊️✌️. That's not to say that I don't get angry or hurt. I'm still human after all. I had kept these nuggets to myself for some years, and it feels good to finally release it. Maybe my experiences may help others who may be struggling with something, especially after the pandemic. There's always peace within no matter what anyone says. And you are stronger than you think. You just have to test yourself to the furthest limits that you can stand. Just pretend that you are a rubber band that is unbreakable and unshakable. There's wisdom and peace in maintaining quietness and stillness. I'm not a nun, but this is what I learned during those three years. 💜💚💜💚

@@deela262 Well, I put my trust in the universe that all would be well in the end. I believe in God, but don't like to go there because it's not up to me to preach my faith to others. People see your actions and how you live your life, whether they approve of it or not. Also, I learned to economize my resources so that I could be more free financially. Doing so involved a certain measure of austerity and minimalism. It's not for everyone. Most people indulge in their material wants and desires. The only thing that makes them restrain themselves is adverse actions that are out of their hands. Embracing this way of life did not relieve me from being cast out until I got myself together again. But Buddhist teachings gave me a solid foundation to base my new presets upon. You have to embrace the pain and suffering in order to find beauty and freedom later 💜💙 . That's your story to write ✍️ and share with others.

Salam (Peace). ❤ Islam is an arabic word that means Submission or Surrender to God the One and Only, and was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124,000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism to purity and true monotheism. Many Religions that we know, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but with the time, their original teachings and scriptures were corrupted with polytheism or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays. Which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. Allah means the only and one God, the God of all prophets, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgement, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this life and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : 19 Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! 20 Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. 21 Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. 22 It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (Translated by Muhammad Asad) Salam (Peace).
