Nah they learned from the mob then forced them out & took over. The mob actually let the working class people have some stuff where the people who took over are way more greedy so the working class are just victims.

My relatives say the same thing. They say they treated them so much better. The work environment was better. They did a lot of things for the employees like family. They took good care of them. The stories my family tells and the experiences I had when I was a kid are totally different than what I experience working on the strip.

I’d say mob run in the days of Meyer lansky isn’t “the good ole days” also love how he says Wynn wanted suits and cocktail dresses when Wynn is the one who made treasure island and marketed to kids to bring their families then made multiple other casinos shaping Vegas into the trash it is today. Dress codes were a thing of the time, not of the mob.
The Desert Inn. Comfortable, elegant, GREAT service, food, amenities and that glorious golf course(still there). And the best fucking barber shop on the planet. I'd hold off for weeks on a haircut if we were going there, and a shave too, steamy towels, a brush full of soap and a straight razor shave. It was SO DAMN good to be a man...

Ok, explain why Vegas is better today vs 50 years ago. Just list three specific examples. I’ll wait……
Born and Raised in Vegas. And I agree with that statement 100%
Back in the day, whenever they would give a guy a one way ride out into the desert, it was always about business, and almost never personal.
Flying commercial was better back in those days too. Everyone looked nice and everyone was very civil.
I couldn't agree more. Im 55 and old enough to remember the rack of loaner sports jackets at the msin entrance of Harrah's in South Lake Tahoe. And no, you didnt walk your children through the gaming areas, and you didn't see people strolling through the joint in flip-flops and board shorts. The main difference from those days to current times is hospitality. Back then the casinos bent over backwards to make your visit positive and memorable. If you lost $800 in a night you could justify it with a 99 cent breakfast or $1 99 steak and eggs. And lets face it motel rooms were a lot more reasonable back then. Thes guys understood the art of hospitality offering free drinks and lucky bucks at every entrance. You might have lost at the tsbles but you still felt taken care of. These days it's all corporate, greed driven nonsense that creats an uptight environment. Theres no sense of relaxation anymore. Hurry up and give us your money and go home. Sort of like an airport.
Better question: In 20 years, where’s Vegas gonna get it’s water and power from?

Unfortunately it’s everywhere. If you go to a Broadway play these days you’ll probably get to sit next to someone in shorts, T shirt, and flip flops.
Vegas Local here: none of us anymore go to the strip, it's just not fun anymore. Hopefully one day, it can be fixed.
i remember vegas in the 60's.iit was movie star cool
I remember my local casino when I was a kid you HAD to wear a collared shirt to enter. Now people are going in with shorts and tank tops.

Nice thoughts....however now a days they have high-profile individuals promoting casino action on said phone ...computer ...lotto etc There is nothing better than dinner...show...and alittle old fashion slots... let me pull the handle 🎉🎉🎉
I’m not so sure those values were so much connected to the mob but more so just American values in general.
Let’s not forget that the Italian mafia were, at base level, a band of thieves, robbers and con men. Okay, Vegas looked pretty good from the outside. People were encouraging and enticed to play with generous comping, attractive hotels, big name entertainment, affordable prices and low crime. All of these positive characteristics were made so because the bosses behind the scenes wanted lots of volume in terms of guests, and they wanted as few reasons as possible for law enforcement to be present. On the back end of that was an organization that frequently dealt in violence and intimidation, and ultimately death. They paid off politicians and law enforcement, as well as upper casino management to ensure that no one attempted to interfere with the massive profits they realized from their crooked skimming operations……wait, this sounds almost exactly like Vegas under corporate ownership, only the corporations have done away with anything resembling a welcoming atmosphere for guests, who are nickeled and dimed at every possible chance. You know what, bring the mafia back. They did a much better job.

Vegas was never all dress up. Yes, at places like the Sands you saw wall to wall suits and dresses. But place like the hacienda and others were sawdust joints and you could wear whatever. Extending into the 80’s and 90’s it was pretty casual.
Ain’t gonna happen we are in a non recoverable death spiral
We should have loads of gangsters back because they dressed well……
Old guys sitting in a room talking about how things use to be better in the past. The story of humanity.
Vegas bartender here and I agree!!!!!
Absolutely.
There’s an area in Sydney, Australia that had niteclubs, gambling spots, strip clubs etc where an underworld crime figure ran and it was incredibly fun but also pretty respectful because people knew the consequences.
Vegas will never be the same.. I just moved from Vegas after 21 years was in the casino business. During that time things went from exciting and fun to wtf?
Vegas is living another life right now. Gearing itself towards being a sports & gambling town.
I think that period was a very specific era where suit & tie was the uniform
I'm in Vegas. Half the people are dressed like it's walmart during the day (sweat pants and flip flops) and then dressed up at night. I sit and watch the girls try to walk in those shoes...they eat shit all the time. The Wynn is super nice though
Elegance requiered for gambling with the mob 😂😂😂
Yep. It was great back then
He's 50, not 75! He doesn't know what he's talking about! OMG😊
I do miss the old Las Vegas, now it's dirty, with no style and class
We have congressmen whining that they can’t wear sweatpants and hoodies to work…the days of class and respect in this country are gone.
Vegas will never go back, corporations will not allow that...corporations would rather step over a dollar to pick up a nickle... Jeff S. 30 year resident
I don’t see it going back, nor do I see people dressing up for family cookouts like they did when I was a kid or (house parties).
I think things were better when i was younger........says the old man...😂😂😂😂
As a man, I would like to see an elevated dress code.

That will never come back ! Remember how we used to travel back in the 50's and 60's ? You wouldn't think of getting on a plane without wearing your best clothes. Now peoples best clothes are cargo shorts, tank tops and fat women's sweat suits !
I agree.
Yah, NO kids . This is my adult Disneyland. Keep the kids with grandma and grandpa

Yeah. So was New York.
Comedian acting like an actual mobster
The old days of thrle classy mafia.
Vegas was better back then
Those were the days when people had class and cared about how they looked...now they don't give a shit !!!
As someone who has called Vegas home for the last 3 decades I can say that this city needs the mob to take back control of it more than ever before. In the last two years it has drastically evolved into a lawless shit show and it’s heartbreaking. Oscar and his boys need to step up and take this town back to its glory days.
I lived in Vegas during the years the mob ran it, up till today, it was better, Vegas had cheaper rooms, restaurants, shows. The money people brought to Vegas went to the casinos and it was fun back then, it was not a child friendly town.
Imaginary landscapes are always idyllic. Sebastian is too young to remember what Vegas was like before corporations took over. What was better, beyond formal attire etiquette?
It will come back once casino's start having $2.99 Steak and Lobster buffets again.
