Seawise Giant World Longest Supertanker 1979

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

www.islandnavigation.org/seawi...
The Seawise Giant was a 564,763 ton super super-tanker. She was the longest and largest man-made creation on the sea - recalls the erection over 2,000 years earlier of the Great Wall of China - longest and largest man-made creation on the land. Tow wonders of the old and new worlds: the Great Wall, relentlessly forging its way up and down mountain ramparts for 3107 miles on its interminable vigil of guarding an ancient land; the Seawise Giant, sailing ever onward in her vital role of carrying oil across the endless sea.

564763 tonnes is just the weight of the oil she carried, total fully loaded ship weighed 657019 metric tonnes .

Seawise Giant had a DWT of 564,763 ton. DWT means DeadWeight Tonnage (also known as deadweight; abbreviated to DWT, D.W.T., d.w.t., or dwt) or tons deadweight (DWT) is a measure of how much weight a ship can carry. It is the sum of the weights of cargo, fuel, fresh water, ballast water, provisions, passengers, and crew.

@@Jodocus1000 yes , thats exactly what i wrote , the amount of weight she can carry is deadweight which was 564763 tonnes , and the empty body was around 80 thousand tonnes , empty body plus load = 657019 tonnes . Cheers .

Cool to see here in her prime (when she was brand new). Little did the narrators know she would be seriously damaged in the Persian Gulf and for a while deemed a total loss. It's funny to hear people in 1979 talking about "energy lifelines", as if the oil in the Middle East was some resource that would never dry up. Don't know what an "economical wonder" she was either since she couldn't sail through neither the Suez or Panama canals. Or the English channel even.
