ya hence a living wage, so you dont need to spend all your time just working. so you can, you know, improve. also you do know the minimum wage from either the 1970s or 1980 when taking into account for inflation, is still more money than the current minimum wage. also add on the double if not triple cost for living doesnt really seem, intelligent for the long term health of an economy.

@Box Top Have you considered the costs involved into getting those skilled tradespeople _to_ the door... You cannot discount the cost of buildings, vehicles, tools, insurance, and fuel, taxes, and all sorts of other things to get a _skilled trademan_ to your door. So yes, sometimes a 2 hour minimum is necessary... you also discount the cost of their education, and the fact they are willing to do the job you either cannot or won't do yourself. If you had a skill worth $60 dollars an hour, you would probably have a lot of expenses around it as well... go take an econ class if you want to keep commenting around here and -act like you are- be right. I make around 20-30 an hour depending on my efficiency as a programmer, and I need to pay for my own office space, internet, computer, phone, and software to do my job effectively. It adds up quick, and anybody who thinks they can get the same quality code from india is deluded. I know, I work with an indian every day. Nice guy, and my code reviews are probably the best thing for his career. Also, he's an _added expense_ people don't think about when they talk to _me_ about the job. The less I use him, the more I can make. So it's nice to just point at numbers and call foul, but unless you know jack about that specific industry, and the costs associated with bringing the product or service to you door, you are just Bloviating.

Artificially forcing the wage level above its equilibrium price creates lower economic output, fewer jobs, store closings, etc. This takes away opportunities for the greatest at risk. And the economy is millions of micro-economies aggregated. Wealthier areas can absorb higher costs, poorer areas can’t.

Spend a few years watching how the locals vote, and how the politicians govern. Then, once you have learned how things should work, you can register to vote. That way you don't turn your new home into the hell-hole you left behind.

This is only going to hurt small business. Big business will automate more & more jobs faster than the current trend of automating the work force. I like the idea of 15 dollars a hour. I have hired many employee's in my lifetime and had no problem paying and training good people. Have you ever had to hire Americans to work for you? Unfortunately the amount of useless people like drug addicts, thieves ,liars and lazy people who apply is the majority of current applicants in many professions. Being a smaller business and having pay for someone who cannot comprehend the job isn't fair to employers who counts on each employee to fill a certain role in the company. Honestly we need a new system this idea of working for pay is failing to provide for people right now. How bad is it going to be in the near future? Put aside your donkey and elephant rhetoric and see the system is playing us against each other.

Minimum wage is actually slavery. The Federal Government steps in and demands that one person must give someone else a specific amount of their money. Not tax payers not donations but money THEY have earned. Explain the difference between that and someone saying you MUST work for free. Same old Democrat plantation just different person having their life stolen.

If my current wage was raised to $15 an hour, my hours would be cut in half and I would be expected to do the same job at twice the speed. Since I'm literally cleaning knives, moving tables, and moving around my employers; the chance of me hurting myself or someone else would drastically increase. All for the exact same pay

Mark my words... Business that can will install order kiosks - a tablet like touch screen, where customers will 'build' their own fast food or coffee order, including payment. This will help reduce cashier staffing and increase slave - whoops, I mean employee - workload in other areas of the business. The slaves working for $15 are going to fucking earn it and hate it.

$15 an hour in 2019? That is $600 a week before taxes of 38.5% How the hell would anyone be able to live on $15 an hour on the west coast? I earn prevailing wages ($37.52 an hour for those that do not know what prevailing wages are... it means livable wages based on your location) in the state of Nevada and it is almost too expensive here. If I was earning $15 or less an hour I would have to live in a tent. :/

What difference does $15 an hour make in a city wear the cost living requires a 6 figure salary to live? When McDonalds has to pay $15 mins a Bigmac cost $10. When Walmart has to pay $15 mins it adds 10% to everything in the store. Big companies pass the buck to shoppers and small companies close their doors or lay off everyone till they go under......... Strange how that works!

Let's talk about every small business skirting around paying their employees time and a half even though they average 50-60+ hours... let's talk about getting pressured to work for salary and getting averaged down to slave wages. No matter how much of a raise you get, it is not going to make up for not getting paid for the hours you work: Let's say that you make $10/hour and they raise the min. wage to $15: 1. work 45 hours and get paid for 40: $13.33/hour, $8.88/hour without the wage increase: $475 owed by law, $400 paid, -$322.50/month. 2. work 50 hours and get paid for 40: $12.00/hour, $8.00/hour without the wage increase. $550 owed by law, $400 paid, -$645.00/month 3. work 55 hours and get paid for 40: $10.90/hour, $7.27/hour $625 owed by law, $400 paid, -$967.50/month $15 is not a raise for a salary worker, it is actually getting paid their wage for once.

when I had a job that paid minimum wage ($7.25) I was in high school. It paid for my pos car and car Insurace and whatever else I was able to save for. My coworkers.. they were 75% like me. Kids in high school earning some spending money and work experience. that other %25 were adults who were mostly drug users (not all of them were), and also acted like children themselves. most but not all of the kids moved on to bigger better things like myself which can afford to move away from home and have a house of my own. it's not our fault some people can't grow up and work hard for a better paying job. increasing the minimum wage that much would only hurt the economy. those jobs are not to support your family of 5 with 3 baby daddy's

Maybe Seattle's city council should all be required to operate a small business. They, and many elected officials, seem to have their heads in the clouds (or in a darker, smelly place). They all need instruction in accounting and cost analysis before they try to make such laws. Would they dare to make laws relating to surgery too?

My question is what if you are already making $15 an hour driving a tractor trailer that requires a CDL license does they're paid double to $30 an hour because that's a skeel and you have to be regulated by the government because if that's the case why wouldn't a truck driver decide I just go flip a hamburger make the same money and I have all the stress of truck driving
