The refeeding process was one of the hardest things I’d ever gone through. Constantly painfully bloated, one time I was so full I got sick...but I’m still grateful that I didn’t give up and pushed to recovery. 2 years free from anorexia 🙌🏼

That's really great that you guys have someone sitting and eating with the patients, and that you focus on a heart rate goal and not a weight one.

This video captures the true pain of the refeeding process. It took me two years to stabilize weight, and now I am working on intuitive eating. Every day in refeeding it feels like you are going against law, against everything you know. You come out a different person, and it is the scariest thing I have ever gone through. It is also thd best thing I have gone through. I truly found myself for the first time and formed bonds with others who shared my pain. Thank you to Seattle Children's hospital for this video, and thank you for bringing so much awareness.

Thank you so much for this video! I’m an Eating Disorder therapist out in New York, and it’s wonderful to hear about programs that truly appreciate the complexity of and mental component of Eating Disorders. Wishing Annalise wellness and a recovery that continues to go smoothly!

I hope your okay. Christmas can be really stressful. The same goes for holidays i n general. Especially because of the high levels of food and disruption to eating patterns and daily routines. I myself found myself in the bathroom after dinner for the third night in a row this holiday. Recognising what you are doing and trying to combat it is really important to prevent relapse. Hope your okay!

Can I just say: “sickest” doesn’t mean skinny. Doesn’t mean eating less. And it annoyed me that the doctor said “it’s a medical problem, but also a physiological problem” Well yeah, but it’s PRIMARILY a psychological problem. It’s a mental illness. Just like depression, just like anxiety, just like bpd. They all begin in the mind, they all end there.

He literally said “rooted in the patient’s psyche”, obviously a condition of psychiatric origin however when the patient begins to show clinical manifestations outside of weight loss including low heart rate etc. the medical component takes precedent acutely, otherwise the patient will not survive to manage the chronic psychological issue, I believe that’s all he was saying, I didn’t see anyone in this video deny that eating disorders are not of psychological origin

Many kids with eating disorders are in dysfunctional families or suffered trauma. I think family therapy after weight restoration should be mandatory as part of outpatient recovery.
