Ойындар

Given his tools and the location of research by the state.. An egotistical genius.. and Creator of Priscilla, Lordran's weapon of mass destruction. This is Seath's story..
This video is about the lore of the Lonely Dragon. Who integrated into the Lords' hierarchy, and then seemingly went mad. But what were his motivations in Dark Souls? Is it really madness that we see? And who was caught up in his path along the way?

Not sure if you have time to do these anymore, but now would be an amazing time to grow your subscriber base by linking these anaylses to Elden Ring content. Somehow, you called out a lot of the Elden Ring linked lore way before it even came out, and with that in mind, it would be an easy sell to create new Elden ring content and link your old videos as background. People already watch VaatiVidya anyway, and you guys have similar vibes to your production, so hopefully it will burgeon your sub base. Anyway, been subbed almost 6 years, best of luck to you!

I just realised something. Seath cannot be older than fire like the Everlasting Dragons; to have an albino dragon, a crippled and mortal dragon, would require disparity. Depending on the time lag between the advent of disparity and the war against the dragons, Seath might actually be very young for a dragon.

That's insane! I also came to the conclusion that Priscilla is the Daughter of Seath in that way, that he accidentaly modified a pregnant woman instead of a virgin maiden. However, I believe the 'other' father of Priscilla to be Havel the Rock directly. In just the same way it's brought up here, the archbishop of law and caste had an affair with a - presumed - maiden. That maiden got abducted and somehow modified by Seath. I believe, that Seath knew or guessed from the very beginning of his experiments with human women that a pregnant women could lead to complications and therefore requested maidens from the getgo. Noone could have foreseen, that one presumed maiden actually had an affair and was pregnant, right? Therefore I believe Priscilla to be the Daughter of Havel, that Maiden and Seath. It would explain that deep-seated hatred of Havel for all things sorcery and Seath a smudge better that just him killing his lover - which also is a pretty good reason to hate someone in the first place ofc. I don't really know what evidence brought you to conclude the birth of Priscilla and the abduction of Havels lover to be seperate events - but I guess I also don't have that much clear evidence for my idea either... except a nice little parabola with Berserk which just rhymes so well to me that I chose to accept this as the more elegant and simpler story: In Berserk there is also a Child with three Parents, just like Priscilla. It's the child Guts and Kjaskar made, which was somehow aborted and livingly modified by Femto-Griffiths Demon-Seed. This happened willingly by Femto-Griffith, instead of presumably unknowingly by Seath, but the parallels just ring something for me. And I stumbled over quite a lot lore references pairing exactly these characters - Guts and Havel, Seath and Griffith... perhaps Myazaki chose to take that connection and this Hommage to Berserk just a little bit further? Anyway, the abduction, perhaps rape of his loved one plus the corruption and ousting of his to-be-daughter would be enough to drive an archbishop of law and caste to a rebellion against the very gods, the stashing of occult weapons in hidden places of Anor Londo and mobilising an army of magic-resistantly armored knights against the very gods he once prayed for. It's even enough to turn him against an old friend - or be locked away by him through betrayal, for his own good, of course. Anway, felt like sharing this. I love your work. It's the most compelling and interesting insights we get in the lore of these wonderful games, I think. And it's so delishious food to fuel the little story ideas and theories of so many others by their own - it's awesome in any meaning of this word. Praise the Lore

I think you might just have it, and that could also explain why Havel's Maiden is the one who died in her cell rather than being transformed into one of the serpentine abominations at the bottom of the Archives. Seath presumably would've aborted his experiments on her once he realized she was pregnant, choosing to lock her away instead. Of course, the damage was already done, but not enough to transform her completely, just enough to corrupt the yet-born fetus we now know as Priscilla. Eventually, she was forgotten, either honestly or willfully, and her body, robes, and ring were left for us to find, the maiden's last testament to the evil of Seath.

I wonder if Seath would’ve become fully crystallized given enough time, and maybe then he would’ve become truly immortal without the need of the Crystal

  • @cbl1199
    @cbl11992 жыл бұрын

For some reason, I've only just realized how utterly futile Seath quest for immortality was, and in the same way the quest of the god to make the age of fire eternal a fool errand, with the crystal itself being a hint so obvious we only sought to interpret it metaphorically as part of some greater scheme rather than literally, as in, the literal crystal can be interpreted as a metaphor for how dragons came to be, if we look into how crystalline structures like quartz come to be in real life. They grow over time due to favorable conditions, albeit extremely slowly, its a natural process like any others, they never were ''eternal'' in the way that they cannot die, but more than they're part of the natural processes of the world that can become manifest. Seath could never have gotten the immortality he sought, and became mad when he realized it was impossible, the same way that holding the crystal and all its qualities simply does not make its a part of your self, a part of your soul. That last line just gave me an epiphany about the nature of his crystalline beings and experiments... He tried to literally fuse lord/flame soul to the soul of the crystal, but when that failed horribly in the form of Priscilla (not that she is a living failure, as she breathe and is healthy as far as we can see, but more than she wasn't the expected outcome, rather than an eternally living crystalline soul whose inner flame grew ever more, she was a creature of want, whose soul could sap the ones of others with a single glance, leaving nothing after, not even ashes. He wanted an exponential and he got pure vacuum instead. ), he started to test on humans and their dark souls, perhaps hoping our dark souls could provide us something he lacked as to find a solution to his dilemma. I suspect those experiments never gave him closure, seeing how things went afterward. He wanted to hold in his bosom the inherent eternal growth of crystals, so he could grow his own scales, yet in the end all he had was a feeble phylactery, a pale, artificial, rushed simulacrum of the real thing, a frail eggshell which crumbling end truly exemplify how mad Seath endeavor had become, a god reduced to a glass house he can never leave, for fear that his so cherished ''immortality'' be lost to anything from a falling rock to a hefty gust of wind.

So glad you’ve been back lately old friend. Looking forward to hearing all your discoveries and analysis once more! PS the fact that Seath is very likely NOT insane makes his actions even more reprehensible imo, although the fact that his mission allows him to retain some sort of sanity in the entropy filled Lordran is still rather impressive. He seems to be the last major force left at least ‘mostly intact’ (for lack of a better term) in the world, aside from perhaps Gwyndolin. He proves to be much more hardy than many of his brethren after all, ironically BECAUSE of his mortality or more precisely his **obsession with** his mortality makes him functionally immortal. Such a dichotomous character, the many contradictions make Seath incredibly intriguing. He arguably is more successful in reinventing the flame than the Witch is.

The way you Describe how Seath plans to bring back the dragons reminds me of how scientists in our universe think we could theoretically bring back dinosaurs by messing with the genetics of birds. I also like that you are able to explain his motives for his actions while not sugarcoating the fact that his actions were cruel and insane. Seath was a monster, but he was a monster born of circumstance and bad luck. Very good video here pal, one of your better ones.

I like to believe that the everlasting dragon in Ash Lake simply survived the culling of the Ancient Dragons and hatched long after their passing in a forgotten place far beneath the surface of the known world- a secret even Seath cannot know. hmmm i believe Seath's betrayal was far worse... the dragons had immortality through scales and invulnerability through the primordial crystal, as seen in Seath's fight. He is immune to harm until the crystal is destroyed. He betrayed his brethren, fulfilling part of his agenda and gaining immunity to violence by stealing the primordial crystal, leaving the ancient dragons vulnerable to attack. Scaleless, he is still tied to time as he is yet not immortal. Through Gwyn's support as gratitude in his help in the war against the dragon he thought to gain the resources to continue his study of the dragons scales. The crystal outbreak and magic are results of Seath's experiments with the primordial crystal. I do agree that he was desperately trying to find dragons to study their scales more closely as the remains of the war were unusable by now. The gaping dragon didn't wield any results, but he had discovered a way to contact another time, as the entrance into the past is directly tied to his archives and the crystal golems he controls... What if the rift for the dlc wasn't intended for the chosen undead to face the abyss, but for Seath to find and study or maybe even use the last recorded ancient dragon that was slain. By the time the chosen undead ravages Lordran, moes through his channelers and destroys his objects of study, he is left to micromanage his his latest work and is ultimately left offguard when the undead arrives at his doorstep, defying his traps, guards and even guaranteed lethal attacks, proving impossible to stop. Ironically his study only accomplished to send the chosen undead back in time to kill the dragon he was so keen on studying.

The White Seance Ring says that it is: "A divine ring entrusted to the head bishop of the Way of White and apostle to Allfather Lloyd, uncle to Lord Gwyn." Since Havel was an important Bishop in the Way of White, who also fought in the Dragon War, it is quite possible that he was also the Head Bishop.

  • @tsarcastic3722

That's a non-sequitor. By that logic any ring in the game could belong to any NPC with fingers, because it's "quite possible" it belongs to them. I could even accept it was originally Havel's ring if there were other contextual clues that connected Havel to that corpse, but the idea that some random corpse wearing a ring "entrusted to the head bishop of the Way of White" means that corpse was therefore Havel's lover is complete gibberish. There's a fine line between lore hunting and fan fiction, and this is deep in fan fiction territory.

Havel is described as both a Bishop of the way of white, and the arch enemy of Seathe by the great magic barrier miracle. The ring of a maidens corpse in Seathes dungeon is said to belong to a bishop of the way of white. If that ring did belong to Havel, it would explain why he was arch enemy to Seathe, as that maiden would be a loved one of Havels. Havel is the only bishop of the way of white we know of, other than Allfather Lloyd, who is the uncle to Lord Gwyn, but the ring is specifically stated to not belong to him, as it belongs to one of his apostles. I really like this theory of Hawkshaws, it’s not concrete obviously but given the information we have it’s much more likely than not. The other way to look at it is that this ring isn’t Havels, this maiden is just some random lady with a bishops ring, and Havel just decided to hate Seathe, who gave Havel and Gwyn the information on how to defeat the ancient dragons.

Great video, Seath is the one part of the game I found most confusing all along. It’s rare that FS and Miyazaki make such an unsubtle and direct homage to King’s Field. While the series is full of little nods to the rpg series of old, Seath stands as the biggest and most blatant reference in the series. As a God and creator of the world of kings field, I expected you to at least mention it. If you do research in Japanese, I’m surprised if you don’t also play kings field, and study the lore surrounding Seath there as well.

  • @michaelbarker6732

I don’t think I have seen this mentioned before but I personally believe at least some of the inspiration for Seath the Scaless comes from a Russian/slavic?(not really sure) mythical character named Koschei the Deathless. He was a wizard who abducted the princess from some kingdom, and he could not be killed without destroying an object which contained his soul( i think its a babushka doll but again im not sure). Again, to my knowledge this has not been discussed by any of the main lore channels. With that being said it might just be incorrect, but i persnally believe the name(koschei the DEATHLESS/seath the SCALELESS) and the fact that they were both invincible until an external artefact is destroyed are both a little too specific to be nothing. I hope you read this as I think you could probably do the most with this info.
