Here is a step by step tutorial for the Yamaha (2023-24) YZ450F (2024) YZ250F YZ250FX YZ450FX Models with the front gas cap.
Removing the OEM gas cap cover is not recommended since the cutout in the OEM cover for the dzus fastener may widen during removal. Leaving the OEM gas cap cover on when installing our replacement cover will not compromise the look or longevity of our cover.
When installing the SC replacement gas cap cover, the dzus fastener will need to be removed, which sometimes causes the washer to break. We provide a replacement washer in case this happens.
Tools:
-- Wire or side cutters
-- Flathead or staple puller
-- 1/4" leg staple
-- Staple gun (pneumatic)
-- Razor blade or scissors
Remove The Dzus Fastener: To remove dzus fastener, simultaneously pull the ring while pushing the bottom of the dzus fastener out.
Installing The Cover:
1.) Lay the material, gripper side down, on a flat surface.
2.) Align the gas cap, as best as you can, ensuring there is an even amount of material on all sides.
3.) Staple down all "pressure points": staple one staple into the center point of each side of the pan.
4.) Begin filling the gaps by stapling into the center point between each of the four staples.
5.) Continue to fill in the gaps.
6.) Pinch and fold the material where the pan curves to create a wrinkle-free install.
7.)At the top of the pan, pinch and fold the material into the tighter spaces. Use a flathead screwdriver to help tuck the material into the center of these tighter spaces.
Trimming:
Some areas will not need to be trimmed. In areas with excess material, use the razor blade to trim. Do not press the blade into the pan. Instead, hold the excess material taut (away from the pan) and cut into the material to trim.
Re-install Dzus Fastener:
Insert the dzus fastener through the bottom of the pan until you see a protrusion point. Use the razor blade to make a small nick at the protrusion point. You may need to push the dzus fastener through the bottom before inserting it through the top of the cover. Take your washer and apply it to the bottom of the dzus fastener.
