2020 car in 2016?

Been driving an Ateca 1,5 years now and... I must say the review is very accurate! The rear suspension does bother me a bit, especially at speedbumps, but overall very happy about the car!

Great phone you had back then. Too bad they don't make them like this anymore (HTC M9). Amazing reviews though. Entertaining and educational.

Another way to improve ride quality is to get AWD. The extra weight eases the ride and stops the car from bouncing around due to less weight of the 2WD version. It worsens fuel economy but on the other hand improves handling in all weather conditions.

I have ordered (in France) an Ateca (20/12/2016) and I'm still waiting (01/08/2017). The internet forums (UK, France and others) have, highlighted this problem since the car was first available (or not!) A great car but pin your dealer down to a delivery date and then expect it to change. SEAT needs to get a grip.

Ha ha! With Leon like looking it has actually no character but Tiguan has! Rear suspension is horrible. Diesel engine is too expensive

+murat baykal Why do you say rear suspension is horrible? asking cuz m considering buying it. Is it because the Torsion beam with no adaptive dampers on papers? have you tried sitting in the back for a ride and tried it?

I prefer it to the Tiguan, although it is a bit shorter. The skoda Kodiaq will be the prize though

Kodiaq will be significantly more expensive. Skoda is working on a similarily sized crossover (Ateca/Tiguan equivalent).

The Kodiaq is also built on the Tiguan platform. It won't be significantly more expensive. It will be more expensive that the Seat though.

mikeymarmalade MQB is a very "elastic" platform, current Passat is also based on it and it's bigger and belongs to higher segment than Golf.

I have tested the SEAT Ateca 2.0TDI FR Sport, I could feel every imperfection on the road. I wouldn't want Torsion Beam suspension so it seems only the 4 drive version's have Multi Link.

All is well but your link to the infotainment system is from 2017. Have there been any changes from that to the 2020/21 Ateca?

I think the design is very good, competitive pricing also. But what about the engines? VAG is in quite a mess right now with the diesels and i read that the 1.4 like the 1.2 petrols are quite unreliable. Did they change something to make them reliable?

SEAT say the 2.0 engine 2WD has multi link suspension. Is it the 2.0TDI or 2.0TSI? Renault Megane RS&Peugeot 308 GTI&Mazda 3 have Torsion Beam.

Mat, can you do a proper review of Mazda Cx-3 , but one with 2.0 petrol engine and awd :)

I really like this new Seat SUV. A new car is always refreshing the whole segment and this particular one seems to be a good choice for reasonable amount of money.

Just changes from a 2017 Tiguan SEL to a Areca FR sport. Very little difference in ride comfort but Ateca is better handling .

Funny that Seat has wireless charging before VW has it :D

Seat is a bit of a test bed. Where I live I bought Ibiza ST EcoTSI 110hp 1.0 in early 2016. Before any other VAG cars here had new gen 1.0 engines

And it's useless, since you can't see your phone when it is there.

Why don't Mat mension that the 4wd versoins get an other rear axle with full independent suspension? That makes the ride a LOT more comfortable. It's the same thing with the Leon. Tdi 184 bhp, Cupra and the awd models get's the multilink rear axle that makes It feels lika a totaly different car to drive!

What is a 12V in the boot good for?

I have a 1.2 PureTech Active Peugeot 2008 auto. I'm looking at a 1.2 Nissan Qashqai Xtronic Tekna. But now I want a 1.4 Ecotsi Se with 18 plate and auto petrol!

Matt, you say it's based on the tiguan and also say it's a bigger Leon. Leon is a golf equivalent and the t-roc is the golf based suv. So it's a bit confusing it me and will appreciate your clarification on its size.

How does the Ateca compare to the Škoda Karoq? I'd imagine the Karoq is a more comfortable car, but (consequently) not as sporty feeling.

I cant decide between 2018 CX5 2.0 Manual or this 1.4 TSI Ateca. What car is faster and drives better? I live in the Netherlands, so all straight roads. I like the exterior of the CX5, it looks much "newer" then the Ateca. The Ateca on the other hand has a nicer interior with Android Auto.

Samuel Brooks sounds like a camera. say cheese 😁 The more the better, the more visious the sales will need to be. I'm at least 12 months off, as I bought the wrong car only 12 months ago, (or at least I'm told it's the wrong one lol). So bring on another ten of these, and compress the market. It's good for us all. Except the oems, but thats there fault.

I thought the Ateca like the Leon and the Golf had a mixture torsion and fully independent suspension. I guess if you're someone who wants a good basic hatchback with a higher driving position and some nice technological touch then the Ateca sounds like it is an excellent buy. I do see how the VAG hierarchy is evident comparing this to the Tiguan. If you're someone who appreciates details like soft touch door plastics, reclining seats, power sockets in the boot and three zone climate control then the Tiguan is better. Very interested to see how the Kodiaq compares, as Skoda seem to be quite apparently stepping on VW's toes with their offerings.

Matt, it seems that you preferred TSI, but I am in need for TDI because I do a lot of daily highway distance, traveling a lot, and my family is 1000km from where I am living. So next week I should order Ateca 2.0TDI 150hp, but I am little concerned that it is a bit noisy and not so smooth. What do you think, I would appreciate your answer. tnx

My father drives a 1.6TDI Leon and its good.I think the 2.0TDI is a bit more noisy but test drive it if you can

+GeorgeΧ. I did. Normally I find the 2.0 smoother but in the Ateca the 1.6 diesel was smoother. Odd. It's not bad tho. However I wouldn't only get true diesel if you do more than 10k miles a year.

I do about 17k kilometers (I live in Germany), but that was with seat ibiza 1.4tsi.. With new car I plann a bit more :) So the km/price is not a big thing, I am a little scared of diesel.. (noise, reliability, etc)

Depends on what u need.I live in Greece and taxes on petrol are high.So even if you dont do above 10.000km/year it might be wiser to go for a diesel.Or a small petrol if u want it for short distances.

a decent effort - overall a good car, although I bet when you start adding extras its well into Tiguan territory. I do like the slightly softer ride of the Tiguan on our rubbish, pothole-infested UK roads though.

@@patriciosoirefman838 I sold it after a year and a half because it was a 5 seater and we wanted a 7 seater. Good thing is that I sold it at a same price as I bought it for, I still miss that car tbh but I now have the next best Seat Terraco, its a 7 seater SUV, it has the same internal dashboard with more extras & add-on features than VW Allspace had to offer. Despite Seat being the part of same VW Group as VW cars which means they are almost same underneath the skin but VW's quality and post sales service is better than Seat's but of course VW is a bit pricey. If you are confused between Seat & VW in specific then I suggest you book a test drive and compare like-forlike add-ons and features.

This was the car I drove at the driving school. It was okay, but the worst thing for me was it wouldn't shift into first gear smoothly. Like how hard is it to make a smooth gearbox today?

The Tiguan is more quiet and soft on the road, overall the Tiguan is a bit better and more premium at everything. However the Ateca is very close to the Tiguan and is cheaper.

I think you should start making more reviews of super cars and higher price cars (like you did on the Maserati or Audi R8). It's so fun to see how these kinds of cars handle the practicality test :D Give it a thought!

I have a group test coming in the next few weeks. It's a really tough decision. You see the Ateca does all you really need. But the VW is more comfy, it has useful features like sliding and reclining rear seats, and a more desirable badge which will help come resale. Is that worth an extra £2,500? That's up to you. I'll reveal what I think in a few weeks in the vid, really though there is no wrong choice, so go for what you think. BUT PLEASE back to back them to see if the suspension difference bothers you.

I think Tiguan it's worth it just for the suspension. Seat went too far with the sportiness and the Ateca is just uncomfortable. It's probably the least comfortable car in its class.

My wife went from a Leon to an Ateca and I can't understand the logic behind the cup holders!! Whats the point in having two if you can only put one drink in at a time!!

Was this before the T-Roc was announced or something? This is clearly based on the golf/leon like the T-Roc so why is he saying it's SEATs Tiguan?

Would you recommend the LED lights for this car or are they not really worth the extra cash?

+James Gordon best thing with this car is to keep it as cheap as possible as otherwise may as well have the Tiguan. Or better still a Peugeot 3008.

If you have a portable air compressor, you need to plug it in someplace to reach the rear wheels. Having a 12V outlet in the cargo area is very useful for that.
