One thing to note in the layering of the vocals and the harmonies, she sings all of it. They don't use electronic doubling or software to make it sound like that. She really works it until it's perfect with no pitch correction.

It's not about her brother , its about someone she loved and hoped they wouldn't leave her or something like that. Most likely about one of her exe's , "nothing left to lose without my baby"

@@976evll that’s the beauty of Billie… Some feel, me included, that it’s about her relationship about her and her brother…. But since she wants us to take our own interpretation then we can both be right as it means whatever we feel it does to us.

@@MrsApplegateartYou can interpret it however it feels to you, i think their comment was more to the fact that you claimed she sings about Finneas when she has never said that.

So glad you made the live point at the end …it will sound a different without the layering but i feel like it’s another version to add the emotion. This is my favourite song released this year …I’ve had a go at home (on KZread) and will perform it live at the end of the month.

Enjoyed your expertise! Big BiFi fan here. This song is featured (and maybe written for) a new Pixar movie and a Netflix series). She is getting braver and said she could only do the belts once she was alone and her brother Finneas was gone from the studio. Her mom says as a kid Billie loved to sing at family gatherings but would do so hiding behind a sofa pillow! I think she is a once in a gen. singer! Thank you! do more Billie please! Her latest album shows her growing in so many ways! PS: Have you heard her Oscar/Grammy winning song for the Barbie movie 'What Was I Made For". She says it's one of the hardest songs she's ever written to sing....all long breathy notes.....

If you get a moment watch the Apple music interview! Its a great insight into their creative process. You can tell they both have lots of respect for the interviewer ( forgot his name right now he's from NZ) anyway, she stops the interview to play him her voice note of her hitting that very high note! She said she rushed in saying mommmmm!!! It touched my heart! Their parents must be so proud! New sub here from Scotland.xx

Hi there, new subscriber here! I've really enjoyed watching your commentary and insights on artists vocals, and I was wondering if you take recommendations? There's an artist named Woosung, and he’s the lead singer in a Korean band called The Rose. There's something breathy about his vocals that I have no idea what it's called, but when you hear it I think you'll know what I mean haha. If I can, I'd like to recommend their song called "Baby."

Really enjoyed that, Tim. That is, except for the "ASMR" parts. You know ASMR is neither an aesthetic quality nor a singing technique. It's a marketing term coined by a woman on KZread who wanted to differentiate her services from hookers who also offered similar aural services. KZread did not buy that and still automatically marks those kinds of videos "ADULT." I'm pointing this out because you used many technical terms and methods in your analysis but undermined entirely by prefacing with ASMR. If that's not convincing enough, I hope you don't create false expectations in young women trying to emulate Billie Eilish: that artistic skill you explained so well in this video has no connection to the marketing of ASMR.

I mean ‘ASMR style’ to connote the smallness of the expression and the intimacy of the proximity to the microphone. This micro singing is a new style of singing that emerged alongside the increase in accessibility to home recording equipment…a lot like ASMR. To say that my other technical points are discounted because of this point? Well…I don’t know what to tell you there. Maybe I’ll use the term micro-singing to avoid triggering comments like this in the future.
