As a kid I really liked the characters that only appeared rarely. It made them feel a lot more special.

You know that a very interesting perspective.

Some of the ironically most popular characters in season 5, like Bertram, were so underdeveloped, it’s impossible to consider them characters.

Honestly, I just prefer calling him pointless to character number 1

honestly I wish they kept arry and bert painted as splatter and dodge they fit the role of standard bully twins much better. not to mention micheal brandon’s goofy would fit them more.

I find it funny how Cranky pretty much became the most prominent non awdry character besides Emily while most of the other characters are barely used. Here are my ideas Lorries: keep the same they're like Scruffy or the spiteful brakevan an antagonistic plot device Bertram: hard to say due to only small scale model but IF magic railroad DIDN'T flop he could run the mine like how salty is attached to the docks Thumper: have him help out bill and ben at quarry Old slow coach: give percy his own coach Derek: my God his missed potential make his following episode be one where he triumphs on his own

I wish the small scale narrow gauge engines were able to have smaller motors as the large scale models look like crap and Bertram should have been based off Little Giant but with a full cab (the real life locomotive, not the scrapped S6 character) to match his original wooden model.

@LegendaryCaptain Also Salty the Dockyard Diesel; he's the one who helps Cranky load and unload cargo at Brendam Docks, and is one of Sodor's friendlier diesels, having no animosity towards steam engines and always ready to tell them tales of the sea.

I wish I thought of that for an april fools video now.

If they have done the railway series one last time for season five, it would be Scrambled Eggs and Down the Drain from Thomas and the Twins, Speedkiller from New Little Engine, Toby Takes the Road from Toby, Trucks and Trouble, High-Speed Gordon, Smokescreen and Gordon Proves His Point from Gordon the High-Speed Engine.

S5 definitely could’ve done more with Old Slow coach but to be fair she did appear in 2 episodes making her a little more than a one off

Honestly Duke and Sir Handel could have appeared in the opening of Bye George instead of Skarloey and Rheneas. And Knapford could have appeared in Lady Hatt's birthday Party where Thomas takes Sir Topham Hatt to the party instead of using Kirk Ronan.

Its a shame that S5 started all the characters coming in as one offs just for toys. I prefer this over how HiT did it though since most of them had potential

My biggest problem with season 5 is how underutilized Edward is in that season. Even as a kid I always felt sad that Edward didn’t have any starring episodes in season 5. I think the episodes Thomas, Percy And Old Slow Coach and Happy Ever After should’ve instead have been called Edward, Percy And Old Slow Coach and Edward and the Wedding/Edward’s Good Luck Package and have those 2 episodes be Edward’s starring episodes of season 5. Thomas also probably would’ve been swapped out with Percy in Edward and the Wedding/Edward’s Good Luck Package. I do believe that if Percy was female instead of male (but still have her be named Percy and have her look and sound identical to her male counterpart in every single way) then this all would’ve been the case since Edward would’ve been the 5th boy instead of 6th.

@@spiderfan2003 Of course they shouldn’t force Edward, just like how they should force Gordon, Henry, or any other main character. But I’m saying that Edward, Percy, And Old Slow Coach and Edward’s Good Luck Package would’ve been very natural episodes for him and Edward would’ve been perfectly in character. The narrator could’ve also explain at the beginning of Edward’s good luck package that Thomas and Edward sometimes take supplies to each other’s branch lines every few weeks thus explaining why Edward is on Thomas’s branch line at the beginning of the episode.

Leave it to the fans like EnterprisingEngine93 to give characters like Derek and Bertram some fleshed-out personalities. In "Redemption", Derek proves his worth by taking a freight train for D199 when the latter breaks down, and in "The Old Warrior", Bertram is very into adventuring and wordplay, which gets on the nerves of the other engines. The Horrid Lorries may not have appeared in the TV series outside of their debut episode (their models were recycled and used for non-sentient lorries), but they have been featured in spin-off material such as the magazine stories and the PC games. In one story, "The Big Hero", they compete against Bill and Ben for the China Clay contract, and D261 (a similarly underutilized character) forms an "Enemy Mine" with Bill and Ben by serving as their back engine to get their heavy train over a steep hill. In the "Trouble on the Tracks" PC game, one of the Horrid Lorries is sent to get more coal from the coal depot due to a coal shortage that leaves the steam engines unable to leave their sheds and James derails.

@spiderfan2003 rubber jiggly balls for the to play with , there was gonna be an episode in Season 14 where Thomas delivers Mr. Bubbles's jiggly balls to the Carnival for the kids to play with ( it's not as bad as it sounds , there giant bouncy balls)

Um, Cranky? Arry and Bert were the best minor characters of this season, but I'm sad that they were dumbed down to just bullies in S6 and onwards because kids crap.
