    I'm glad I'm the first one to make a comment. To be honest this is by far the best method to acquire English. What I usually do with the content like this is I keep listening to it more than 3 times (at least) then I analyze the vocabulary and most importantly the expressions used mainly by natives cuz I'm focusing on the speaking aspect of the language especially the American one, when finished I repeat listening again to the same episode a couple of times till I feel confident before jumping to other topics. Thank you very much for all the effort you've done you too so far ❤

    Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! Your way of studying sounds great! That's exactly what I (Mark) do with my Spanish podcasts; I listen to a short-ish dialogue many many times until I can start to repeat full phrases and sentences on my own. We're really grateful for your dedication and attention to our content - we hope to make much more so you have lots of material to study with :)

    I find the review format so useful! Especially when you speak in your natural way, things get quite harder because of the intense use of contractions, elisions, assimilations, etc. I still can grasp the gist of your speech, but not every single word, for sure! However, challenging our ears is the only method to improve our listening skill (hopefully! 🤞🙂). Thanks!

    Thanks so much for your kind words! We're really glad you like the video format and found it useful! We're definitely trying to say these dialogues and quickly and authentically as we can - because that's what students face in the real world. It's okay if you don't understand every word, and you don't have to repeat it exactly like us, but the contractions and ellipsis are definitely useful things to know to help you listen to native speakers "in the wild" 🙂 We've got more of this style on the way very soon!

    I'm particularly enamored by your dynamic podcast episode because it encompasses all the crucial components of English such as pronunciation, daily expressions, idioms, and most notably interative dialogues that can incrementally help us sound natural when speaking with others. I guess that one the most fabulous sources for vocabulary expansion and enhancing conversational skills are podcasts especially this one because never have l seen a podcast that encapsulates both American and British English which is enchanting as it helps hone our comprehension. Apart from the fascinating dialogue l truly relish experiencing the richness of both accents, so my go-to way to elevate my English with podcasts is to record myself talking about the podcast episode l listened to earlier in my own words whilst also writing down the new phrases. ❤ Looking forward to new dynamic lessons.

    Hi, thank for the lesson. What is different between “I was finished” and “I finished”? Why “I was finished” was used? Thank :)

  • @highlevellistening

    @highlevellistening

    6 ай бұрын

    Great question! As a native speaker I (Mark) naturally tend to use: "I am finished." I think this is easier because I can use this shorter sentence without any object or extra details. For example: "At 5pm, I am finished." or "Alright, I am finished, let's go have lunch." or "Are you finished?" In contrast, when I use the verb: "I finished", my brain naturally wants to add more detail, like an object. What *exactly* did you finish? Compare these two: a.) "At 5pm, I am finished." vs b.) "At 5pm I finish [my work]." or a.) "As soon as I was finished, I left." vs b.) "As soon as I finished [my breakfast], I left." or a.) "Yes I'm finished. You can take my plate." vs b.) "Yes I finished [my food]. You can take my plate." So basically native speakers are lazy and want the shortest and easiest sentence possible 😅 The verb version actually sounds strange *without* an object. "I finished." Ok... you finished what? Your work? Your food? Your story? I need that extra detail to get a clear message. I hope that makes sense!

    TBH I loved it better when she was teaching only IN her American accent because with a british accent its harder for us to understand specially if we are beginners just in my humble opinion theres a video where she was alone and it was so helpful
