Searching for Summer Bulls - 9 Day West Coast Tahr Hunt

Спорт

Chris and Raddy set off on a huge West Coast mission chasing bull tahr in early December.
Lucky for them there's no shortage of animals on this trip, so deciding what bull to pull the trigger on proved to be one of the biggest challenges. Watch along as the boys get treated to some cool Kea interactions, avalanche encounters and a good old beating from the West Coast native bush.
Enjoy!

Leaps and bounds ahead of the rest!!You guys produce the best quality and most enjoyable films from the southern hemisphere, and this is probably your best! Love the info on Kea conservation in particular. A lot of other hunting channels could learn quite a bit from your films.

@South Island Rifle Walkers if I ever get the opportunity to visit NZ I'd love to go up on the high ground to see them. We don't have anything like them here in the UK unfortunately. It's a sad fact that non-hunting people don't realise the spectacular wildlife experiences we have when hunting, regardless of where we are in the world, and that those experiences are every much a part of the hunt as pulling the trigger! Keep up the good work guys - It's always a good day when you post a new film!!

Usually we try and carry out as much as possible however this time due to the length of the trip as well as being summer the meat would never of lasted so none was brought out this trip. May seem a little rough if your from overseas but there is actually no law requiring you to take any meat in NZ and they are actually considered to be a pest here due to how much damage they can cause if numbers get too high so ground shooting is a good form of conservation. We either shot with a 308 or 300 Win Mag, this trip we took the 300 Win Mag

@@southislandriflewalkers5545 Need to shoot a lot more to be playing the conservation card, and not taking meat is not the sin some preach about. Some put in a lot of effort to carry out dog tucker, the cooking efforts shown in places would make a rat or old ram taste the same. Good filming, it's interesting to see the current state of the various places and these snapshots in time are good records, and the effort produced the results. Those films of the animals playing are great, they get up to some unbelievable antics. Would be interesting what deer are about there.

@@southislandriflewalkers5545 That might be optimistic plus. While the idea of rec hunters was trialled (the wilderness ballot), reality shows the incentive & ability are near absent from that group to get any meaningful results, including population information. Listening to rechunters skiting about how they found and threw away the location pegs for vegetation plots speaks volumes (outtheredoingit: those monitoring plots were established in the early 1990's). If having a go at knocking a mob over, don't leave any if possible. Get them in the right place & if unlikely to get a good proportion, it's no sin to leave them. NZDA etc advice to shoot 2 & leave some for seed has made a lot of tahr wary, made control by shooting far more difficult, and spread them (as has the efforts of DoC skidbiters, that we paid for). There seems to be a lot more than many assert. The good filming keeps up some interest what's happening in those places
