    Masons, when they start upon a building, Are careful to test out the scaffolding; Make sure that planks won’t slip at busy points, Secure all ladders, tighten bolted joints. And yet all this comes down when the job’s done Showing off walls of sure and solid stone. So if, my dear, there sometimes seem to be Old bridges breaking between you and me Never fear. We may let the scaffolds fall Confident that we have built our wall.

    What does the scaffolding represent?

  • @deathlybadger7192

    @deathlybadger7192

    2 жыл бұрын

    The scaffolding is essentially them building their relationship together and it's part of what's used to help build the wall. It basically represents that though there may sometimes be issues in marriage and relationships such as arguments, the scaffolding might come down but their relationship is solid and they'll always overcome their issues, which is what the wall represents, he's essentially saying they've built their relationship up over such a long time that even when they have difficulties, they'll always pull through because of how strongly built their relationship is. Hence letting the scaffolds fall

    @@deathlybadger7192 I appreciate you explaining but I still don't get what an example of scaffolding would be. Yes scaffolding would help you build a real wall but maybe I'm just too literal but I don't get it, if the wall represents the strength of the marriage what is the scaffolding? What is it that can be let go?

  • @conchita1257

    The way I read it is that in marriage along the years there are circumstances that are there to build the love (the wall). If it is strong, when the circumstances (youth, children, etc) go the love will still be there.

    So beautiful....but I think due to many reasons European poems are so rough...but in Asian ones specially Persian it has many many real beauties beyond the meaning...

    And you would know for sure? Unless you are completely fluent in a language and culture, and I mean completely fluent, I'd say it's impossible to know. Human beings make poetry. I doubt the language they use makes much difference in the end to their ability to speak of mysteries subtleties and depths.

    Quite naive - the analogy, the rhythm, the rhyming. Funny how, the poet having grown out of it, still feels the need to return to the likes of it! As if to excuse, or justify, himself.
