Seamless Octahedron

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

[Intermediate] How to fold a clean, sturdy, octahedron with no creases on the faces, from just one square of paper, no cutting! You can use a sheet of origami paper or printer paper cut square. Relative to other origami octahedrons this one is easy and since it is seamless it is extra clean looking! It's also an efficient use of paper since it's just from one sheet! If you can attach a thread to it using a needle then it will make a nice origami ornament. It also is a great project for a geometry class!

Thank you Jeremy for the tutorial, I enjoyed making the seamless version. I tried using the same crease pattern to make a seamless decahedron, by just avoiding making creases across the two extra triangular surfaces. It turned out ok, but not as firm as the octahedron. Would you have any suggestions on how to change or improve the flaps in the final stage for a decahedron?

I made mine out of plasticky brown crocodile-skin-pattern paper. It was a pain, as the paper is stretchy and saggy before you wrestle it into shape, but the finished product is pretty cool - it has an alien, organic feel to it.
