Seam Sealing A Tent - Seek Outside Small To Medium Sized Silnylon Tents And Tipis

Спорт

In this video, Owen demonstrates how to seam seal the small Seek Outside tents or tipis (Silex to Redcliff). We consider them "small" because most people will be able to set up the tent and seam seal all the seams, optional stove jack and the cone without needing to get a ladder. We will have another video showing how to seam seal a larger tipis (Redcliff and above).

If you accidentally make a mess, or get the silicone where you don't want as he mentioned towards the end of the video, Paint Thinner will clean up WET silicone. Once it dries you cannot get it off, but if it's still wet you can wipe it off with a small amount of paint thinner on a rag.

I like to take a deep well socket to roll the seam sill tube to get the most product out of the tube.

Thanks for the video. Do you recommand sealing seak outside Seans on the inside or on the ouside of the tent, or both? I always thought that it should be done on the inside but it seems you do it on the outside.

We always seam seal the outside of the shelter at the shop.

@@seekoutsidegear Weird. On my Silex I had them done at your shop and you sealed the inside, not outside.

Thanks for the video! How long will it last if I seam seal it once? If the seam sealed tent exposed to the rain for a long time, it melts and disappears?

Is there a type of seam sealing tape that can be used instead of this glue? Do you know of any products capable?

Sadly sil nylon is extremely difficult to stick things to so the glue is the best option. we use tape on our DCF models

Do you seam seal the zipper entry ways? My tent had all seams sealed but the ones around both entrances.

  • @seekoutsidegear

We do not seam seal near the zipper as the zipper itself will absorb the minimal amount of water, we found this in our testing.

Thanks! It held up great in a week of heavy pnw rain. One question though, how do I fix small holes caused by embers? I'm bummed that I have two holes in the tent from this weekend, not sure how that happened but maybe I need to remove my chimney cap. Do I silicone the holes or is there a patch?
