This wasn’t lip synced at all. They played live. It just that what we (in TV land) heard was overdubbed with the original recording. If you were there live in the studio audience, you heard them live, not any recording. Those at home watching on TV, heard the recording. That was how it was typically done in those days. Of course they were actually singing out loud, you just couldn’t hear them unless you were there in the audience. Notice they weren’t even trying to lip sync at all, it was way off. The producers were too afraid any live performance just wouldn’t sound good enough. Little faith in the actual musicianship of the artists back then. Just stupid.

Unless the artists insisted on performing live, most variety shows preferred to do recorded (lip sync) performances. It was cheaper, required less rehearsal time, and guaranteed that the finished product would sound exactly as the audience expected. Since most music acts saw appearances on shows like this primarily as a way to boost record sales, my guess is that S & C just said "eh, whatever." Going live wasn't worth the fuss (besides, who knew this clip would be floating around the atmosphere forty-some years later?).

@@Dreama88 good stuff Char. Must have been a great time.
At first I didn't like much this melody then the second part I just loved it ❤️❤️
Wonderful times
Dash has a high voice when talking . They had a couple songs I enjoy. Hummingbird was one.

Why do "snowflakes" have to tear everything and everyone around them down to make themselves seem superior?! Such sad miserable sheeple.
The Donny and Marie Show...I was a kid, probably watching it.
Great video.....Thanks!

I think, they like the song, not the corny staging of the Donnie and Marie Show.
Is that Donny and Marie performing with them? I thought it loooked it.
My younger years
I wonder where they are now?
ARMY DAYS
Why these silly lip.syncs they were so good.and were performing almost every day.

Lipsinc much? Seals and Crofts!!! Numuro uno!
Donny & Marie Osmond come out
No microphones for the voices or guitar cords for the guitars. I guess whoever staged this thought the viewers were fools.
This doesn't look live at all. The video looks like it's live, but the singing isn't in sync.

It's definitely the original album track.
donnie and marie
Seals & Crofts were great. Donnie & Marie, not so much.
Lol. Donny and Marie show.
That's the original recorded version tho.........and a lip sync here.
Great lipsinking....
Funny, I don't see ANY vocal mics here! Obviously, this is the original studio recording dubbed in to a live video performance. Not a fan of this!
Lip syncing! Rip Jim 🎶🌈💕
Buncha white people dancing on stage there
The best "GAY" video I ever saw! Pretty colors..Awww sooo cute!

Just because it was Donny and Marie they had to wear all kinds of fluorescent clothes. Fantastic lip syncing
Best song they did was Summer Breeze period. These guys are weirdos
