SeaDoo's Polytec 2.0 - Can a plastic hull work on a full sized ski?

Спорт

Can a plastic hull really work in a full sized ski? With the new 2020 GTI lineup, PolyTec 2.0 has been launched and is used exclusively through all GTI models, even the GTR230. These are full-sized skis using the plastic hull, significantly heavier than the Spark. So do they hold up? Do they feel cheap? Would this hull work for a ski I'd own? These are the questions I set off to answer as we tested out the new models in the GTI lineup.

I had a 2020 GTI SE 170 with 50 hours on it. Polytech 2 stood up totally fine. Big waves, small waves, towing, 3 people on it - Didn’t matter. I would buy one again.

I have the 2020 GTI se130 and absolutely love how it handles from calm glass conditions to 3 foot waves from yachts

Great video bro. Very informative and in layman’s language. My fiancé and I bought each other 2020 GTI 170s as wedding presents and are looking forward to getting them in the water. NY weather has been uncooperative. Thanks again for the info. I’m looking forward to more videos

This is a solid breakdown with well thought out points. The fact they lowered the cost and made the hull more ridged is definitely a game changer. However, I still don't think people are ready to accept Polytec on high performance skis, especially if it hasn't reduced weight dramatically like it did the Spark. The fact that it has higher drag (even though waxing or filler can remedy that like stated) and it's "plastic" are surely going to bring out some major hate. Overall, I do like where Sea-Doo is going with tech and they seem to be innovators of a game that's been stagnant for while but in the performance game, I feel this is a miss. Perhaps going Poly on the fish-pro would have been a better idea to lower the cost and add more available "Linq" features. If Sea-Doo focused further on the Linq lineup and reasoning behind the Polytec around this, it would make more sense. Anyways, I'm looking forward to what Sea-Doo innovates moving forward. They seem to be the only ones going out of the regular comfort zone!

Luckily SeaDoo isn't trying to build high performance skis out of Polytec, something they verified to me. You're right, the Linq features on the GTI are a nice addition. Maybe a Fish Lite model would be nice built on Polytec, but leave the additional features that the GTX has for the Pro.

Has there been any more information on reducing drag? I have asked around about the bumper filler rumor and got no where. I recently got a 22 gti for 200 class Aqua X and wouldn't mind increasing some mph lol

Is the polytec 2.0 only on the GTI or did they start updating the spark to improve the hull rigidity for the original polytec 1.0 ? also which models spark get the polytec 2.0 ?

Thx for sharing this. So in short, you would prefer the ST3 hull over the polytec. In my experience the ST3 hull is more comfortable in choppy water & the polytechnic 2 maneuvers better & was more nimble. That’s IMO. Rumor has it eventually Sea-do will all have polytec hulls. What’s your opinion on the 2022 170 wake ploytec 2 hull vs. the GTX 170 ST3 hull?

Are these on the 2021 ST3 hulls (GTX). I keep hearing people say they are on these but cant find it on the spec sheet.

I understand that Polytec 1.0 was on the 2017 GTI. Was this just the 90? Is the outer portion of the lower hull on a 2017 GTI Limited 155 plastic or gelcoat?

I bought a damaged 2020 GTX 300 Limited. Someone ran into a dock busting open the nose right there at the tow ring. Why can't I find any info on buying a replacement hull? Does you think repair would be a more economical solution? I've been quoted $4-5k for repair.

Isn't drag offset by weight savings? Have two new gtr 230s. Possible to offset drag by a waxing?

I have little experience with watercrafts yet, but as an engineer I would probably go with thin epoxy cover and then sanding and polishing for least friction and best performance.

What is the speed difference really??? I find in many cases people would sell their souls for three miles per hour in a vehicle with no consideration for performance under the curve!!! Unless I was racing in some sort of serious bucks up class, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over a few mph.

PWC Muscle Hi there I am looking at buying a new jetski between to models The Sea-Doo 2020 GTX 170 And the Sea-Doo 2020 GTI SE 170 They both have the same engine and horsepower so what is the difference between both of them can you help me with that.

GTX is built on their fiberglass platform, GTI on their Polytec plastic hull. The GTX will have a lot more features. You can compare them on the Sea-Doo website. Unless you just want a premium naturally aspirated ski, I'd look toward the GTI and save money. The GTX really shines with the 300 engine.

Our 2018 Spark Trix 3 cracked at 18 months old - 28 hours. You can call BS but you're not responding based upon facts. We absolutely did not hit anything. The side of ours cracked in the center of the sidewalls when we were riding over boat wakes on a freshwater lake. Absolutely no impact damage. SeaDoo said we hit something, but never actually inspected it. Merely went of of a couple of pictures provided by our dealer, who admitted there was no indication of impact. They assured me it would be replaced by SeaDoo, but SeaDoo didn't stand behind it. Replacement of the hull cost over $3000. Never buying another SeaDoo. Their plastic hulls are merely a way to provide a low cost machine. You get what you pay for.

They are not good hulls at all. I'm a current fiberglass repairman on boats and get skis and we are getting several sea doo's coming and there cracked in the same place everytime and there just bad.
