OMG... Thanks so much for posting these memories. Wow...Train 17 in the morning! Locomotive 3030 was a regular visitor to Littleton, NC, back then. One evening, many moons ago, we "raced" (paced) it and Train 18 along curvy Highway 158 West after it had pulled out of Littleton, Mars light and all. We had to let it go a mile and a half out of town. The highway speed limit, back in those days, was 60. 18 was already exceeding that and still accelerating.

This is the only video i could find with a SAL GP40 moving.

0:25-0:32 appears to be Fayetteville, NC 0:33-0:52 is Rocky Mount, NC 0:53-1:28 is Norlina, NC Some Second Generation EMD power is shown in these clips which would place, at least the North Carolina footage, around 1966-67. Thanks for sharing!
