Howard, Pollard, Smith and 'The Biscuit' were a great convergence. Seabiscuit just needed a steady, patient and knowledgeable hand. Pollard was dedicated and loyal. Howard had faith and the will to back it up, Tom Smith was known to some as ' The Lone Plainsman' ; one of a kind and even more rare these days. He was thoroughly knowledgeable of all the mental, social and physical aspects of horses. To bad the 'little biscuits' lost out because of WW2.

The book was such a great story, all the stars had handicaps, Seabuscuit himself imperfect all come together. I also read the author herself had health issues preventing her from seeing the opening night for the movie.

@Paul Gallagher I will check it out. My friend has pony with no great pedigree, and despite a odds he has won national titles in show jumping. Breyer collectable horses picked him in 2018. He bucks between jumps and I've heard trainers of nice expensive horses joking how they are getting beat by a bucking spotted pony. EZ to spot, all heart like Seabiscuit and his people.

In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema and music that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment in the confines of your home.Have been binge watching all sorts or documentaries of different genres and topics with the sport of "Horse racing" being one of my favourites. The Mahalaxmi racecourse in Mumbai is cycling distance from my house .Have been a fan of horse racing in India since the age 19 years and later a punter for over 25 years finally quitting betting and becoming a armchair voyeur of the sport.Have seen the movie "SEABISCUIT" but still have to read the book written by Laura .Hillenbrand.. A excellent documentary with explaining the horse's amazing career and fame. Bizarrely "Seabiscuit" and later "SECRETARIAT" had large hearts and also died young.

Why must there always be some magical intangible "spirit" invoked when it comes to champion racehorses? Why must we always hear about them "wanting to win" and other silly anthropomorphic attributes impossible for a horse to actually display? Couldn't it just be that the horse was a product of successful selective breeding, strong heritage, hard work, training expertise, money and above all luck? Why do we need to build fairytales around these animals? It's more impressive when it's shown for what it really is instead of being all mystical about it.
