I was so stoked to see Alex again on his boat. Not sure about his chances as it seems there’s a lot of luck involved but for me the boat is the rock star. So brutally on the edge of everything, if not overpowered, Hugo Boss’s journey will be one hell of a ride . Alex’s family however can sleep at night again 😂

Perhaps I was not paying enough attention after Alex's withdrawal from the race, but I never learned if it was determined that the problem resulting in the failure was related to a design problem or a manufacturing/construction defect? Can you illuminate me? Thank you.

I believe Alex's last very costly project failed at all due to structural problems of the boat, so needs to restart with a new background, sponsors and boat which takes time so needs to be out for a while...🥲

I was thinking similarly. With all that damage suffered from the last attempt would he (or anyone) be confident enough with this boat's seaworthiness to race another VG? Even with the best repair job, I know it would always be in the back of my mind.

I spotted HB for sale on yachtworld recently, POA. I'm probably going to get shot down for this but to be honest what galled me about the whole thing was a. the arrogant assumption from the word go that the race win was theirs by right, and b. the total radio silence when problems emerged and eventual retirement resulted. Their fans, sponsors and race fans in general deserved more. Just imv.

@@sheadford agree, there was great optimism for a win from the outset. I would love to know why there were fundamental structural failures when so much technology exists to protect against such happenings.

In all particularity, Alix’s very close relationship to the design and build of this latest boat has damaged his creditability for securing a new sponsored project. This last boat was a structural disaster. The seriously under designed major longitudinal with multiple failures was a red flag, not to mention losing the keel a year earlier.
