Thanks for posting very interesting and brought back memories of my childhood on my grandad's shoulders watching HM Queen visiting Torquay in the late 60s me gobsmacked at the RN doing us proud (I remember a carrier but which I'm not sure). I also remember the Sea Vixens, Meteors and my personal favourites the 'frightening' Lightnings with the beautiful Hunters diving and soaring off Dyfryn in N Wales. Glory Days the 60s and 70s. 👍🇬🇧

Beautiful bird, have always love it since I had made a model of it in the early 70s. I would love to see that Restored FAW Mk.2 XP924 come to the US for some Airshows !!!!!!

What a Great video, thank you! I'm currently building a scale model of this, since finding out that my Grandfather worked developing/building these at De Havilland, Christchurch.

Damn, that's an awful small deck for such a large plane!

Does anyone know why De Havilland didn't approach Vought for it's F-7 CUTLASS design ? When the F-7 got retired from Carrier service - - De Havilland could've collaborated with Vought in re-designing the Sea Vixen into a single-seat air-superiority fighter : missile and gun totting Interceptor / dog-fighting

Perhaps because the Gutless-Cutlass was inferior to the Sea-Vixen in pretty much every aspect of its design? There was a noticeable lack of dog-fighters in the FAA however as the sole mission was fleet air defense against bombers at sea this wasn't really viewed as a problem. If the RN or DH had wanted to turn the Vixen into a single seat fighter they would not have needed Voughts assistance to do so. Why Vought didn't seek assistance (from anyone) in turning the Cutlass into a useful design is another question.

For its day it was a pretty ambitious airframe... bit too ambitious perhaps. The biggest issue though was the lousy engines... theres an old joke about getting more heat from Westinghouse manufactured toasters than the Westinghouse J-34's...

The video hitches or has some artifact that causes it to do so; it ruins the action & makes the video almost unwatchable. Thanks for the attempt tho. Cheers!
