Sea Shepherd Rammed by Canada Coast-Guard

Canada Coast-Guard rams Sea Shepherd twice.
Cool comments, no specific order:
OZSeafarer
IMO Marine orders Part 30 "Prevention of Collisions"
Navigation Act 1914.
Both powerful sets of regulations that all vessels must abide by.
CCG's Des Groseilliers was completely at fault in this deliberate collision.
The Marine Enquiry will find CCG actions were
to blame entirely & premeditated in nature.
Result: Minimum downgrading of bridge crew navigating officers licences, with possible cancellations & fines.
Those officers should have obeyed Marine Law not Loyola Hearn.

They are there to document the seal slaughter. How do you suggest they should be documenting, oil paintings on the spot?

Let me translate what cutting the footage tried to hide: Eco pirates were actively endangering Canadian hunters by destroying ice around which they were working in Hudson's Bay. This caused the hunters to call for assistance from their government, which responded by sending CCGS Des Groseilliers. CCGS Des Groseilliers decided that Sea Shepherds weren't acting so aggressively as to require aggression, so instead used their ship, an icebreaker, as a shield for the hunters. The SS then try to play chicken with a larger, reinforced ship and lose. So, they then try to cut of said larger ship and play chicken again. They mostly lose, but get ahead, because the CCGS didn't want a scandal so slowed down as to not sink the Farley Mowat. The Farley then gets blocked again, this time far more aggressively, because the CCGS doesn't fuck around and saw a group of hunters in immediate danger of the Farley. The Coast Guard didn't "cut off" or "ram" the Sea Shepherds, it blocked the Sea Shepherds from actively and intentionally endangering the lives of Canadian citizens. The FM rammed the CCGS. Fucking with mislabelled Japanese "research" in the arctic is one thing, actively endangering what is most likely Inuit hunters is a whole other level of eco piracy. Also, shame on the SS for claiming the Farley Mowat is a research vessel when they're clearly there to fuck with the hunters.

lets be frank if a medium class ice breaker as pictured where to "ram" any ship that ship is going straight to the bottom, btw if anyone didn't know the farley mowat was seized by the canadian government impounded then scrapped, point of the story although sealing isn't viewed as right by some endangering lives is viewed as wrong by all so respect the distance, Canada is known to allow protests as long as there conducted safety for all involved and clearly it wasn't

@@xxalqc4608 this event happened in Hudson's Bay, which is assuredly Canadian waters. Even if it were far north of that, in the Northwest Passage, or ever further north of that, in the Nunavut, it would still be Canadian Waters. This video depicted eco pirates actively endangering the lives of Canadian hunters, and the Canadian Coast Guard very docilely using their ship as a shield to protect them, while the eco pirates complain about their actions to sabotage the hunting season get thwarted by the Canadian Government. I support the Sea Shepherd's actions protecting whales from mislabelled Japanese commercial fishing in the arctic. Endangering Canadian hunters, hunting during the seal hunt season, in Canadian waters, is a wholly different stupid.

+hotsteal84 Pete Bethune was Captain of the SS ship Ady Gil when it was sunk by a Japanese whaling vessel. He resigned after admitting that SS 'Admiral' Paul Watson ordered him to let the Ady Gil sink to get better footage for TV cameras and gain public opinion. The Ady Gil could have stayed afloat and been towed to Hobart for repairs. So who are the Criminals? The Coastguard who are doing their job in this vid or Sea Shepherd, whose 'Admiral' orders a Captain to sink a ship so it looks good on TV. I'm against whaling and sealing but Sea Shepherd have totally lost the plot and are now more interested in TV ratings than actually saving marine wildlife. And as a side note, notice that every ship has a Captain. An Admiral is a rank in Naval Armed Forces. Why does Sea Shepherd need an 'Admiral'??? Merchant ships do not have Admirals. As soon as a ship leaves port, the Captain has full and complete command of his vessel. He does not have to take orders from anyone else (onboard or offshore) unless it's from an enforcement agency. Bethune did not have to carry out the order but he did out of respect. And thats what made him resign.

@Dogmeat1950 It's normally called a "safety zone". That wasn't the point of my post. Even when I was onboard CG ships, we didn't "ram" other ships. And I did learn a little about the "rules of the road" in my 20 years of service.

Be thankful it was a icebreaker. If I was an armend ship you would have been fired upon for trying to knock and endanger those people on that boat.

Should have hit it at 90° full speed. The sealers are making a living from a very renewable resource that eats tons of fish everyday. There are millions of seals. The sea Sheppard should have been sunk that day.

Lol right? And in international water no less.... It's all bs off course. They were in Canadian waters and even got boarded and arrested by the RCMP moments after the ramming incident but they conveniently left out this portion...

The making of propaganda. As can be seen, the Sea Shepherd is actually acting unlawfully. For example, approaching from Starboard to claim right of way (which vessel must yield passage to the other) is belied by their overtaking of the other vessel (in which case, overtaking must yield passage). This is all their footage, cut and edited, for manipulative purposes. What can be seen is that the Sea Shepherd's intentions were to kill sealers. I use the word "kill" because their actions were to steam directly at men on the ice, the only outcome would be impact, men (dead and alive) in the water, some caught under the hull of the ship, possibly sucked into the Sea Shepherd's screws, hypothermia. You may not like sealing (I don't) BUT to intentionally endanger human lives is not laudible. Worse are the lies put out.

The problem is theres to many seals because they don't kill enough of them. Seals eat all the cod and other fish. The cod was almost instinct for over fishing a long time ago and now the problem is the seals.

The sea shepherd was ramming the coast guard ship, you can clearly see the coast guard ship isn't even making any sort of bow wave when the collision occurs. And the first collision happens as the coast guard ship is attempting to go astern while the shit shepherd cuts across her bow
