TS100+drill battery is my go-to mobile option. You can get cheap USB chargers to fit many drill batteries, which make good donors for the mechanical fit, just don't forget to put a fuse in! For mobile but plug-in situations, laptop PSUs are good as chances are you already have that with you.

TS100 + 6S Li-Po drone battery is my go-to mobile option ;P I also use it with usb C as I had a usb C PD 20v board, I just made a dedicated adapter from that.
You got it quickly 🙂 It's nice to see that MINIWARE is constantly improving its devices. When I test the maximum power of the soldering iron heater, I simply put the tip into distilled water and then turn it on. Then I can read the maximum continuous power with fairly high confidence, regardless of the startup algorithm.
I work for a marine robotics manufacturer and have outfitted field kits for myself and our technicians for whenever we need to head into the field for client support. I used to have a Weller WESD51 in each kit but they were big, heavy, and only work at a single input voltage. So I opted to replace them with TS100's and they've been great. They're small and light weight, which is really important when outfitting a kit that someone needs to carry with them, especially on flights. Saving that weight has allowed me to add some additional tools. As you demonstrated here with the TS101, they're plenty capable for electronics work. I wouldn't replace the stations in our production department with them, but for field work they've been capable, reliable, and much easier to work with in situations when we've had limited working space. Finally, one of the biggest advantages for us, is when powering them with a wide input AC/DC inline supply you can plug them in anywhere in the world (120/240VAC 50/60Hz). Which is great because we have clients all over the world. The Weller stations were 120V only, so you needed a bulky transformer to power them depending on where you were deployed.
That's pretty dope! I've got a couple of the ts80's and they are super functional compared to traditional devices. What a time to be alive!
I only found your channel a few days ago, the videos are really high quality. Appreciate your work, looking forward to any upcoming videos

Now that's how you review a soldering iron. Awesome work right there.
Thanks for these reviews. The new Pinecil V2 has shorter tips with lower resitance 6.2 ohm tips (vs. 8 ohm) for more power at lower voltages and about half the price of the TS101. Would love to see a comparison.

I had not heard that about the resistance or the length I guess although I don't know if I have seen the V2 but ya my comment was going to be to bad that pinecil already beat them to it and I assume much cheaper I have had a ts80 for a long time now and it's great but if I was buying one now I'd have to go pinecil

@@james10739 Pinecil V2 looks the same as V1 except the rubber grip is green. I believe the new shorter tips will work with Piinecil V1. So far, I've only seen the one tip that it ships with but the whole line of shorter tips is supposedly coming soon. Should be interesting to see if lower resistance improves performance.
Thanks for the interesting review. I’m happy with my current TS80P for mobile use. With the TS80P power upgrade over the original TS80, and the shorter reach than the TS100/101, the TS80P remains my preference.

Agreed. I have a TS80 and TS80P and I love that thing. It's extremely useful to be able to solder anywhere using an external battery and roll-up silicone mat. I just replaced the head unit in my car and it was so nice to solder while in the car.
I really like the no-nonsense approach to your videos. I can't stand the "dramatic" tone of other...eeeerhm...aussie-style channels. Now on the important bits. This is really meant for off-site work I think? 60W+ is still crazy for this size. Kudos to MiniWare for making this.
Think I might upgrade !...cheers.
I believe that plastic cap that's squared is intended for use as a stand or to keep the iron from flopping over...I can't see how it protects from burning your fingers as that part of the iron doesn't get extremely hot...I have both ts-80 and 100, both are great for small to medium work.
I’m very glad they upped wattage than it was on TS80 it was main reason I didn’t upgrade from TS100 because TS80 was very low wattage and I think I will upgrade to TS101 for portable and keep Aixun T3B for my station soldering. Thanks for the review

Thank you for this helpful review. Could you advise what you set the sleep temp and time to? Also, whilst soldering, for how long is it ok to keep the iron at soldering temp whilst not in actual soldering use (currently, I turn the iron off as soon as I complete each joint, whilst prepping the wires and position for the next)? Thank you.
Very neat! I just seen the cheap ones being dumped. Modern electronics requires quality tools to work on. With planned obsolescence and all rights to repair fading into the deepest black holes I am the more hesitant to invest into a bleak future!

The only problem with miniware products is that they are quite expensive. In case anyone is interested in TS101 i would suggest to consider Sequre or Pinecil in selection. Thank you for test of this "new" TS iron Steve ! 🔊
The big question are they using original stm32 or a cloned version that it's hard to flash with the open-source fw
What would be better the Pinecil over the New mini ware ts101 . I have lots of T12 tips for use any advice will be good thanks.

You could drill out a wine cork and slice it over the tip to hold it closer to the tip.
When I shake it, there is a small vibration and noise inside. As if there was a loose screw in it. Is it the same with you?
Nice look at the TS101! Not sure if I'd go for it though, given the Pinecil is cheaper at $26usd, supports 65w USB-PD + comes preloaded with Ralim's IronOS). Shame they didn't give the TS101 an aluminium shell like the TS80P....

Hello, I just bought the Ts100 soldering iron, but when I want to update, DFU 3.45 appears on the screen, CONFIG does not appear, I get an error when I want to copy new firmware. Now TS100 won't turn on, what can I do?
Anyone else having issues with the o-led display in the ts100 going dim to the point it's unreadable?
I was looking at the pace. But I'm not super fond of it. But that price is kind of where I'm at give or take. Any suggestions?
How big is the display in millimeters, the pixels don't say the display size. The mist displays have the same pixel size but are almost all like 28mm x 8mm(128x32 pixel) in usable screen size.
Shipping the Pinecil to the UK can get very expensive, three to four times the us price by the time you pay shipping, import duties and tax collection charges from the shippers !
@JohnAldred
Жыл бұрын
The one linked in the description shows free shipping to the UK. You're charged VAT on AliExpress at the point of sale and there are no duties on anything valued less than £135. So, there's no extra to pay to the shipper.
@bobcarter6143
Жыл бұрын
Yes shipping from most Chinese vendors is ok. Getting anything in from the USA is not as they rely on the shippers to collect vat…
I bet the 128x32pixel size is more marketing and the really usable size is almost the same on all soldering irons. 28mm x 6mm to 8mm measured without the black display surrounding.
I wish they had a button lock feature I keep changing setting while soldering without realising. I don't want the guard and TBH you could easily mould a soft comfortable one with some Sugru.

There is a new version (that i just ordered) it has.. 3.1 PD 90 Watt power! (instead of the 24v barrel you can run 28v via the pd 3.1! )
Any idea what chipset it uses? I want to know if Miniware is still using clone STM32 chips in them. This is why IronOS no longer reccomends TS100. See: *Please note that Miniware started shipping TS100's using cloned STM32 Chips. While these do work with IronOS, their DFU bootloader works terribly, and it is hard to get it to successfully flash larger firmware images like IronOS without timing out. This is the main reason why the TS100 is no longer recommended.

Seems like the software is limiting the power. It barely went over 30W while coin soldering. It's a demo unit, maybe the actual sales versions will have an updated software. If not, I am sure someone will come up with an improved custom firmware. All things considered, I think this is like a good combination of TS-80 and TS-100 in one unit, which is really a good idea.
How do you calibrate?
I had a ts100 and the oled screen failed within a year with little use. I searched about the problem and there are a lot of people with the same problem, so they should use a lcd screen instead, it's cheaper and more reliable.

Had it for one month and it is a piece of crap. As soon as you touch the PCB pad, the tip cools down, and it needs to re-heat, and it is slow. Using a 18V DC adapter. Avoid it at all costs, and go for a soldering station instead.
