Nice video and product. Font was small when comparing spot temperature with and without IR window. What was the "measured" temperature drop caused by window's non 100% transmission? It would be nice to check that also at much higher temperature. Do you have a black-body calibrator, to check the accuracy? Thanks again!

I have the original QianLi thermal imager in this 'form factor' since 2019 I think. I mostly use it to find fault/shorts on phone and laptop PCB's. This one looks better in the sense that the build quality looks better, the quality of the software is better and the connection is USB-C (and not the stupid RJ45 connection where you probably need a USB->network adapter to be able to use it on your computer). The thing I'm missing though, and what the older QianLi camera does have, is a visible light camera. It's very nice to have a visibile light image on top of the thermal image (lets say 10-20% opacity). It really makes looking for small temperature difference on a PCB more easy to pinpoint. The price really isn't that bad tho... I think I paid something like $900 back then.

True about the visible camera, but the short focal distance means that you get good enough resolution to pinpoint components if you get close to the PCB. How did the QianLi handle the image alignment?

  • @jeffrey308

@@sdgelectronics You have to align the visible light image in the software, depending on the camera distance. It's never more out of alignment then a few millimeters though.

Thank you for this video. I appreciate the information you have given. I previously had the Flir ETS 320 for finding shorts on motherboards which was very good, but it developed a fault and I returned it. I wasn’t able to get a replacement at the same price as I bought it with a significant discount. I’m therefore looking for a replacement and wondered if the software with this camera combined with the viewing angle, may make up for the difference in resolution between this and the flir which had 320 x 240. This camera looks good enough to me from your videos and I like the look of the software. I was very disappointed with the flir software and the way I was unable to get larger boards under the camera.

While I'was looking around the Qianli Supercam X's software, I discovered it has an important feature called "electricity leakage quick check" which did not exist in the software of DytSpectrumOwl. I hope developers will add this feature on DytSpectrumOwl in the future. BTW, I bought this one along with Seek Macro Lens at price 550$ in Vietnam.

The recurring pattern with chinese electronics and instruments is that the finish and physical build quality is excellent these days but they often lack in circuit protection and adhering to standards. Trying to buy a DMM & it just annoys me how they won't put a PTC/HRC fuses etc. Coming to this imager, the stupidly close distance to the PC really limits it. Not to mention the useless sensor. Whatever it gains out of getting the sensor so close we should be able to achieve through software.

with all due respect UNI-T has a much finer detail and pallete for 25% of this price. their software and the option for models is the best choice for folks like me on seriously tight budgets. I've easily used a borrowed model from other friends and clamped to my magnifier to find shorted components at the smallest smg level. I get that you have sponsors but the loyalty to your watchers comes before any sponsor. otherwise anytime you say they sent you this to review it becomes a point of skepticism.

FLIR One Pro only has a thermal resolution of 160×120 and a refresh rate less than 9 Hz, compared to the 280x200@25 Hz from this device. Given the minimum focus distance and wider FOV of the FLIR you have effectively worse resolution when looking at small components. I used to have an original FLIR One, but it didn't really work out for PCB use.
