Probably should've put the plastic up over the sides, that way the side boards wouldn't soak up the moisture of the 'mud'. Kinda looks like chimney soot/creosote build up.

I think painters tape is superior to duct tape! I bet it holds🤙🏾 Try adding sand if you don’t like the mud consistency!
