Scuola del Cuoio: A Florentine Family Affair of Quality, Craftsmanship, and Tradition
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
🇮🇹 After being guided by my good friend Tommaso Melani, the owner and CEO of Stefano Bemer and Sartoria Vestrucci, on a walking tour of Florence, we come to visit his family's original leather workshop, the Scuola del Cuoio in Santa Croce.
Founded in 1950 by Tommaso's grandfather, Marcello Gori, Scuola del Cuoio was originally a charity organization training orphans in the art of leather making as a way to earn a living in the aftermath of World War II. Nearly seventy-five years later, the company has bloomed into not only a charity foundation but a thriving business of artisans and craftspeople creating beautiful custom leather pieces for customers visiting from all over the world.
What makes the model of Scuola del Cuoio unique is that it is not a chain production, but rather each product is made by hand from start to finish by an individual artist. This not only preserves the integrity of the craft itself but also gives the craftspeople and students of the school the tools to expand their skills and be fully independent artistisans.
In this episode, Tommaso introduces me to family and business partners Beatrice and Filippo Gori who take me through one of the best kept secrets of Florence.

In the 1970’s I was first taken to Florence as a kid and my parents bought me a small box from this producer which I now use for cufflinks and studs. It still gives me pleasure to hold and open it, over forty years later.

The Best-Dressed Male global award has to go to Mr. Kirby Allison! Forget all those so-called, ‘best-dressed celebrities’ who are dressed by their stylist. Mr. Allison leaves them for dead!!! He takes stylish dressing to another level❤
Well done. Thanks again for time well spent!

Don't worry... we have an episode where we visit Paolo Penko, one of the preeminent goldsmiths in Florence! And, for allowing me to be gone so long while filming this video, Mrs. A got something that she was very happy with! It's an expensive precedent... lol

Italians can definitely speak without their hands. A good conversationalist knows how to distinguish appropriate behaviour.

Made in Italy by Chinese workers doenst mean it is made in Italy
@giovannimoriggi5833
28 күн бұрын
It can be true if they work their way, but where did you see Chinese workers here?!
@kirbyallison
26 күн бұрын
Nothing here is made in Italy by Chinese workers... there are plenty of makers to misrepresent "Made in Italy." Tommaso and his family are not one of those... But, generally, I agree with your sentiment. I am actually quite reticent to purchase "handmade" products from street shops that cater to tourists in a place like Florence exactly because you have no idea where these items are actually being made. It's real. But this is also one of the reasons that a place like Scuola is such an incredible hidden gem. They are authentic, family-owned and operated, and still practicing the traditional craft that we romanticize about Italy.
KIrby, I just watched your video on using a scanner to scan your feet for shoes. You need to start getting a pedicure. Your sefl care is not working. The little toe on the right foot is red and irritated. You nails are too short and blocked by tissue from growing straight out.
Very nice. I plan to visit one day soon, with my wife, and purchase something special for each of us

Watched the intro on the last video, had to watch it again here because it's a true spectacle of cinematography. Best wishes kirby. Side note : i think it's time to grow out the ol beard abit . A short neat beard would suit u well. Also , really looking forward to seeing the final reveal of the bespoke suits you've commissioned. ❤
