Sculpting in Blender with QuickTools

Фильм және анимация

This covers my new sculpting process in Blender using the QuickDeform, QuickShape and QuickCurve addons which are all part of the QuickTools suite. I'm using the brand new feature QuickDeform Sculpt Pie which takes all of the sculpting tools I need along with some new custom brushes and brings it all into one menu.

15:00 quick curve blockout gesture 27:20 insane side view shield creation 28:00 sword could’ve used quickshape to make smooth but wanted it tougher for clay effect 29:00 combine all separate messages and can remesh them together

I really like your approach of not using the smooth tool to keep the "real clay" feeling. Can't wait to try it !

Your mastery of the technical practice and artistic practice is mind-blowing. Love seeing these tools in action.

Inspiring stuff! Seems like a very intuitive workflow. I haven’t sculpted in a while but maybe because I never liked working straight from a sphere either, so I’ll be giving this method a go. Appreciate all the work you do with these tools. 🤙

Thanks for making this. I hope you make more demos on the quick tools. I only have the Quickshape so far and I'm looking forward to the others. More demos on each tool separately would also help in case we don't get them all at once.

Sculpting on Low End Laptop I have a celeron laptop with 4 gigs of ram. I just started Sculpting and I'm thinking of getting a course on Sculpting but I know my laptop can't handle 2 million vertices. What's the average number of vertices a sculpted character has and should I rather not sculpt on this laptop? I don't really want to do low poly characters. Also, how long did it take you to get good at Sculpting?

If I may ask what lead you back to blender from coat? (I'm learning both)

Hey, well I'm constantly evaluating my workflow and trying to make sure I use the best tools for look I'm going for. When I made this video I was happy with keeping my sculpts medium resolution so I could do it all in blender. Right now I am back to sculpting in 3Dcoat on top of base meshes I make with QuickTools. Overall imo 3DCoat has 2 major advantages: nearly infinite resolution and realtime voxelization, and one major disadvantage: Layers instead of keeping each object separated which makes building scenes and blockouts super annoying. So I think a combo of both is a great choice. I'm working on a new video to show my current quicktools -> 3dcoat -> unreal workflow

would u say its worth it to also learn zbrush and 3D coat or can i do 99% in blender?

  • @ALKSNDR

3dcoat offers some workflows you can't achieve anywhere else because the voxels are generated in real time, and both 3dcoat and zbrush let you work with over 10mil polies easily while blender struggles after 4mil or so. So it depends on what you need, if you are making concepts I would definitely stick with blender

@@ALKSNDR Happy to hear you say that about 3DCoat. I'm actually blown away by how well it performs. Sure it has it quirks, but the tools in that package are damn impressive. I'm actually about 4 days away from my trial expiring and I'm thinking I'll pull the trigger and buy it.

Buy 3DC even if just for Retopo and Texture, and show people just how good it is! Blender is free anyway, and 3DC compliments literally every 3D software.

Yes, I consider QuickTools like a Low Poly 3DCoat toolset although we have extra features that are innovating on top of that such as quick texturing and rendering
