Sculpey Souffle Polymer Clay Tutor Review

Video #545: A suitable replacement for the Studio by Sculpey clay product that was discontinued a few years back ... More Info: www.beadsandbeading.com/blog/?... Polymer Clay Tutor.
Topics Covered In This Video:
* Sculpey Souffle is a new line of Polymer Clay in 2014 from Polyform.
* Comes in 22 colors at the time of this posting.
* Described as lightweight, exceptionally strong clay that doesn't crack when used on large pieces.
* It has a suede-like matte finish that doesn't need to be sanded.
* The clay is soft and reminded me of the old Studio by Sculpey polymer clay which is no longer manufactured.
* Same sized block as Premo Sculpey but weighs 15% less than Premo.
* Also available in Multi-Packs.
* Designer colors... not artist based pigments.
* When I mixed Mai Tai with the Bluestone 50/50 the colors mixed equally and appeared that the saturation levels (at least with those two others) are the same.
* Colors did not shift or change when baked.
* Matte finish that doesn't need to be sanded.
* This product will sand and buff to a shiny finish, but there are tiny white specks in the clay that are visible on the sanded pieces.
* In a follow up video, I will do some strength testing.
* Souffle is an excellent substitute for the old tutorials that called for Studio by Sculpey Clay.
* Clay can be used for caning but it is a little soft, so it would be best suited for only simple cane designs.
* Bakes at 275F (130C) for 30 minutes. I think it will need to be baked for longer but I will have to do more testing to know the ideal temp and time for this clay.
* Forgot to mention in video: The clay has only a very faint smell similar to Premo and is very opaque in color.
* There is no Translucent Souffle in the lineup at this time.

Tried the "Souffle" today & loved it! It was absolutely a breeze rolling in the pasta machine, and the "Nonstick" texture is really nice! Thanks for sharing!
Omg I love making clay you really inspire me I watched every single video on your channel and I get really excited when you post new ones xx
The souffle comes in a nice palette of colours, they really harmonize well with each other.

Interesting product !
Heh, I just got my Sculpey Souffle sample pack today! (None of the stores near me carry it. Which is odd...) I haven't dug into it yet but it does seem like a lot of fun! Thank you for this review, I look forward to playing around with it and seeing what works and what doesn't!!
Is the Souffle clay firm and flexible just like Fimo and Premoi?
How come you never reviewed The Fimo brand of polymer clay? They have lots of series and I would love to hear your opinion about it!
This is the first time I've seen this clay. THANK you Cindy. You always surprise and enlighten me. I've used Sculpy for years so cant wait to try it.

It's a great clay! Thank you for commenting! 💖
Hi Cindy (font of all clay knowledge (I say that with love kindness)) Can you mix Premo & Souflee clay in one bead? i.e. to mix colours?
is this clay had an expiration? because i both one today anf its cracking and so hard to mold. pls reply. what do i need to do.
I definitely want to purchase this product.
Thank you for the review!! How do you find that Souffle stands up compared to Sculpey III? I absolutely hate using Sculpey III (especially for canes) because the lines bleed so much. I saw that your lines did not bleed in a small cane, but wondered if you had played with it in any larger canes?

Hi Nisa S If I were you, I would use Premo for canes instead of the Souffle, unless you were using its matte finish for an advantage.Souffle is pretty soft and unless the cane is very simple in design, it may be pretty hard to get crisp lines with it.
I just got a pack. It conditions easily and mixes nicely. On to baking.
Please make a belt buckle. Please!
Have you tried blending this with premo?
I thought it was the discontinued studio clay too I was heart broken when they discontinued the studio and was so happy ehen soffel came out
Must get clay!!
Thank you so much for this review, but here's a question -does any polymer clay sites or craft sites ship internationally?!
@PolymerClayTutor

Hi Crafty Mints Yes I'm sure you can have it shipped. A Google search for "Souffle polymer clay International shipping" or "Souffle clay and your country" that should get you somewhere.

Thank you!! I'll try my best to put my hands on these precious clay blocks-even Michaels or JoAnns don't ship it to a country so far away....ToT

The package that I purchased was so hard that the clay crumbled. Any advice?
Hi its 2019 and just watched your Souffle review. And wondered aftered these last five years, you have more to add to the review. I basically will use Premo, but have 10 Souffle as a bonus I received. Have you tried mixing it with Premo? Thanks

After 5 years I can still say that I love this clay! I think it is probably the best clay for anyone starting out as well as an advanced clayer. And yes, you can mix Premo and Souffle.

Hi, Just wondering if you tested longer oven time? Did you find an ideal temp & time for the souffle? I'm enjoying your tutorials they're so helpful 😊
Plz tell me stik clay mug and dry
Hello! I don't know if the colors has anything to do with it but I roll a package of sea glass and went well although can't say the same for the teal pearl, I had to disarmed my pasta machine completely to clean the mess it creates 😕 ... I think is too soft for my taste although I love the colors!

No Maria, it really doesn't have to do with the actual color, but more to do with the freshness of the clay. If it is too soft, you may need to leach some of the oils out of it. I have a video on that if you don't know what I mean.
Any thoughts on what kind of glue sticks to Sculpey Souffle well?

Gorilla Glue White is my favorite.
Is it ok to mix the different polymer clays??
@wolfyheart5655
8 жыл бұрын
yup, almost every type of clay company (even playdoh) keeps in mind that people are going to want to mix the clays to get the colors they need. it is okay to mix one type of polymer clay with another type, but the thickness and softness may varie depending on what clays you mix.
I'm curious to know whether the Sculpey Souffle gets soft faster than the Sculpey Premo. When I teach kids sometimes they complain about the amount of time it takes to get the clay soft.
@PolymerClayTutor

Hi Marianne Vakiener Yes it does get softer faster than Premo.

I've been doing polymer clay since 4th grade ( I'm in 7th now ) and I sometimes go through phases where I do clay for like 6 months straight but I stop for like a year. Is this normal?
@PolymerClayTutor

Hi jenna talks too much nice to meet you! First of all never worry about being normal... normal is boring. :) As far as coming and going from a craft, that doesn't matter at all. You are probably just figuring out what your interests are. I have come and gone from different crafts for years. (Though because polymer clay is so versatile and it has become my business, I have never become bored with it and have stuck with it for over ten years now and don't see an end in sight.)
what time did you make this because i am watching this at 8:00 in the morning

Hi krista orobono I don't film these the same day as they go out. Sometimes they are done a few weeks in advance. (I have to film in batches or I'd never get everything done!)
Super
I have been experimenting with the new Souflee clay i think it is more flexible and i agree it is less likely tho brake . i have experimented with using mica powders and i think it it adsorbs less of the pearlesance of the mica powders so it can overpower the color a bit . so i would be sparring on using it as a mold release which i have done instead of corn starch in the past. but over all i am liking it.

Try baking a little hotter 135C instead and bake for 1 hour. Use an oven thermometer as well. Hope that helps!

THE SOUFFLE DOES NOT REQUIRE AS MUCH CONDITIONING AS PREMO
@PolymerClayTutor
8 жыл бұрын
The need to condition polymer clay depends on how fresh/soft it is. If you are comparing an older/firmer batch of Premo with a fresher/softer batch of Souffle, then you would not need to condition the Souffle as much. However, if it was the other way around, you would have to condition it more.
My clay always breaks up. Any suggestions? I just tried the souffle and thought it would not break and still it broke up. I baked it at the suggested time. Please help....wasting a lot of clay.

Sounds like your clay has been improperly stored and is partially cured. I have some videos on how to buy polymer clay that will help explain this. Also I have some videos that will help you make hard clay soft again, that may help.

Hi Krystal Griffin-Peterson and CutePengy I didn't think Michaels was going to carry Souffle, but I did know that Hobby Lobby was, and heard that Joannes was too. There should be plenty of places online as well. It is brand new so it may take a while to show up in places.
