My wife and I are just beginning a scuba certification class. We love crabbing from our kayaks in the Alsea Bay, but it would be a blast to catch them by hand. We’ll see how it turns out. Thanks for the cool video!

I always thought you had to freedive for those I didn't know you could go down there and scuba dive for any kind of fish or shellfish without a commercial license

Great video, after watching you guys it made me get out my scuba gear that I have had in storage for a long time and start again. Mainly spear fishing that was my passion and still is. I am heading to depot bay Oregon in march and was wondering if that is the old Garbaldi historic US coastguard boathouse and pier. Usually scuba alone and that place looks pretty safe as long as it is hit at the right time of day and tide. Can you let me know if it is. Also, just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the great videos. Started watching them today. Thanks

That looks like an undersized Dungeness crab they don't even have a proper crab gauge

Hey Chris, the only crab I took home this day were legal. You do not need a proper crab gauge, in the state of Oregon the legal size Dungeness need to be are 5 3/4 inches. Any tools of measurement are allowed, in the video you can see me use a ruler. As for red rock crab, any size of any gender can be kept so that may look like the smaller one you are talking about in the video. You can also take by hand on SCUBA in the state of Oregon. I have attached a link below if you are interested in reading up on the regulations. myodfw.com/articles/oregon-shellfish-regulations
