If you've seen some Bergman films from the mid-'60s through mid-'70s you know how biting and brilliant this is. One thing I always loved about SCTV is how they did their homework on whatever they parodied. They locked onto a subject of satire down to the minutest level... it was unbelievable to watch back in the early '80s, and it still is. Nobody on TV would do a comic 8-minute trek into minimalist film aesthetics anymore.

As with all of the SCTV parodies of movies and TV shows, it is obvious that the writers and performers have a very thorough knowledge and appreciation of the original material. They do a magnificent job in seeing the comic possibilities in making fun of Bergman's films, which are almost without exception extremely serious and oftentimes very grim and depressing. Bergman's Hour of the Wolf (title), Cries and Whispers (clocks) and Persona (pretentious head juxtapositions) are most notably parodied here. Pure, unadulterated comedy gold!

Since O’Hara was in a small town in Canada and Martin was in a small town in Maine when “The Dove” was released, it’s much more likely that they saw some of Bergman’s films rather than the spoof. The only comparable part is that they’re both in black and white….the women did a much better job sending up the Swedish language and the plots were completely unlike.

The midget is right out of "The Silence." But great deal of "Persona" and a smattering of "Cries and Whispers" and "Hour of the Wolf" as well.

I remember thinking this was so funny when I saw it as a kid in the '70s having no idea that it was a parody of an Ingmar Bergman film. Thanks for posting it; I never thought I would see it again! Yay!

Andrea Martin and Catherine O'Hara were, in my modest opinion, more talented than their male counterparts on this brill show but typically received less air time. The guys seemed to have far less range in their characterizations than did Martin and O'Hara but nonetheless reaped the lion's share of the rewards, to wit: their own series, etc . . . Still, a delightful show to watch. Cheers!

So fun. I miss John and Joe … and the whole SCTV gang. I remember rotating the TV antenna to a specific spot almost dead east just to pull in a very snowy version of SCTV late at night out of Canada. My parents were annoyed by all the late night laughter from me and my sister. Catherine and Andrea were hilarious and beautiful. I was in love with both of them. ❤

Watching Ingmar Bergman flicks, I am happy to understand them, and more happy to not have the strange world-weary view they express. Give me good old Count Floyd any day! OooooWoooo!

I read somewhere that the sound editor apparently didn't understand the show's humor and just cut in the laugh track wherever he felt like adding it.

The Bergman parody probably would have been better with no laughtrack at all, but there are a lot of subtle jokes in there that just get nothing.

He scared my pants, and my g/f's dress right off, for over 8 hours...we hardly slept...just stayed up all night. To make things SCARIER, we watched these episodes with the miracle of SMELL-O-RAMA and used our plastic (not the cheap cardboard type) 3--D glasses. Ohhhhhhhhhhh... Ohhhhhhh.... Ohhhhh... What a night... We even ordered food for delivery from, of course, our nearest BEEF 'N BOOZE. After watching the TERRIFYING Count Floyd episode(s), we took a taxi right to one of Harry's Sex Shops. Hard to believe but, Bobby Bittman was there, dressed incognito, wearing a mask...he had a Snake on his face‼️

I had to write the scary film in CODE...which is pretty terrifying when you think about it too... Aoh Aoh Ahooooow... Don't forget kids...get your parents to CERTIFY those CHEQUES, if you want Count Floyd to send you an authentic, real good pair of 3-D glasses...make dat cheque out for...ohhhh, lets say, $27, I mean $38 Bucks‼️😱😳😵😳
