Which is why he did not fit in in Season 9... without Eliot, JD, Carla, Janitor and Jordan around... Cox is just an alcoholic jerk with no friends... it destroyed his character because any actor needs the original cast's chemistry to make any character work... The interns who were cast in Season 9 were not the problem... it's just that there was no fixed central protagonist... and supporting protagonists... and main antagonists... in the original Scrubs JD is the central protagonist... with Cox, Kelso, Carla, Turk, Eliot all as supporting protagonists... and the Janitor was usually the main antagonist.... but there were also other complex frenemies who work as antagonists sometimes... like Jordan, his brother Dan, Kelso (earlier seasons), Sean or Keith.

Depends. You'll notice they never showed her actually giving him drugs, right? If a doctor does, and they OD, it could become a liability suit, especially in today's SUE EVERYONE world. They made it so the patient blew his own cover before she handed over the goods. If Dr. Cox let drugs exchange hands, it would be considered negligent, because he already knew.

@@CharlesBrusch Cox probably planned on contingencies if Sammy kept up the charade. That would explain why he was right out of the window close to the room when Elliot found out she had been con. He was actually shadowing her in case Sam wouldn't give up the charade. He got to gloat and do the victory dance that he succeeded in getting Elliot to realize the truth and he would never admit he was watching over her the whole time. Cox is a lot of things but he knows what he's doing. Especially in the early seasons, he would never risk a lawsuit for someone he clearly knew was a drug addict. His face actually dropped right when Elliot left when she said that he cares more about being right than actually doing the right thing. That actually hurt him more than he would care to admit. Because he was trying in his own way to get Elliot to wise up and grow as a doctor. He knew he could never get her to realize the truth just because he pointed out so he watched over her and tried every chance to get Sam to screw up so Elliot could learn all of these things. And eventually he did. But if things had escalated where the prescription was written, he would've found a way to circumvent and stop it.

Totally Agree with Cox’s decision to wait to tell her. Elliot had to experience that on her own to grow as a doctor. Without going through that she would of continued on believing everything a Patient told her because they seemed like a “honest and good person.” That may of led her to worse situations down the road. I also think he’s watching the situation the whole time, he was ready to step in the minute she actually prescribed anything.

I think what was an incredibly subtle detail was that Cox was waiting outside Sam's room when Elliot finally found out the truth. He was out there not through any accident, he was shadowing her and making sure that if he failed in this mission, Sam wouldn't get his fix. He may have even finally told Elliot the truth over why he knew all of this had she written the prescription. He was able to save face over the entire thing where he could gloat and dance and be Dr. Cox as usual, but his intentions always were that he cared about Elliot and he was trying in his own Cox way how to be a better doctor. That they can't trust every person that walks into the hospital is going to have a heart or soul of pure gold and it's dangerous to see it that way. It's why when Elliot said he didn't care that when she was out of sight, his face fell. That did hit and hurt him. Unfortunately, Elliot never got to a full realization throughout the series that Cox in his own way was a bizarre but awesome mentor the way JD did and it would've been nice if it finally dawned on her that Cox truly cares far more than he always lets on to anyone.

But once he's onto your game, all his defenses go up, and he tends to try to teach that skepticism and cynicism from the get-go because he doesn't want to see his students get suckered too.

Dr Cox is what I strive to be every day lmfao
The end is the best
The thing is, you know he didn't actually like this, even though he was show boating and appearing to enjoy proving her wrong. The thing I love about Dr. Cox is how he secretly wants each doctor to succeed, to the point that he knows that unless he does this, they won't actually learn anything.
He knew because he made the same mistake. Let people learn from their mistakes.

@@DirtCheapFU that was an interesting little skit. Perry, i know we've been married for a week but it goes cracker cheese apple cracker, not cracker apple cheese cracker (just turn it upside down). You're gonna fry for this *grin* WORTH IT!
Dr. Cox is just hilarious
What’s funny is Elliot later also does an “I told you so Dance”.
This show was fucking awesome
Anyone else notice the video went on longer than the count?
I'm in pain right now, but since I used to be addicted to methadone, I don't even want to go to a doctor.

The best part of Cox is it’s almost a follow on of his past characters
2:32 dr cox dancing
you can tell some folks, you can show some folks, but some folks just have to touch the stove to know that it's hot
Dr. Cox is basically Mr Feeny but more over the top and extroverted.
After that tube treatment I'd say he's earned some drugs
To be fair to Mr Thompson, if my medic was as annoying as Elliot, I'd just be begging for the drugs myself.
There is such pain
I love the episode when the same guy almost gets Jordan
No experience is
omg, the patient sounds just like Dr. Cox when he's making his speech or should I say rant. lol
Duh test 🤣😂🤣😂😂 definitely using that
In there is pain
I hate this because I have been on the receiving end of Faking for painkillers I've had four back surgeries and chronic pain have gone to a doctor and the first thing those doctors have said we don't prescribe painkillers here when I was there for strep throat
Dr Cox vs House!
Whats that instrumental song at the end of the clip?
Woooo Adam West!
I may be mixing this up, but I'm pretty sure this episode comes before the one where Elliot says Dr. Cox never taught her anything, and the show (including Cox himself) agrees with her. If so, this would make that latter episode a little awkward.
I think Cox influenced Hugh Laurie with House.

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is who I wanna be when I grow up. The world needs more jackasses who will teach you and put you through a little hell to help you become stronger on the other side.
Its a private hospital, so why do they care? Cox shouldnt have told her, let her experience it firsthand
You cut off the bit where he knew he was lying! Why would you do that
Then Jordan gets con by that guy.
2:30 but him celebrating this proves that Elliot was right, Cox cares more about being right then doing right
the way he did the eliot impression is gold XD

@@brace110 No, it isn't. KZread automatic detection system doesn't take audio into account in relation to the video. They are separate. That's why a blank video with copyrighted audio can get claimed and likewise, a silent video with copyrighted visuals can also get claimed. The audio being slightly out of sync with the video (which btw, I didn't even notice any delay) has no bearing on it getting automatically claimed. And yes, I did reply to a comment 2 years late just to call you out, but you replied 9 years late to the original comment and you weren't even correct. You Grade A moron.
