I love your site, very inspiring since I am a fairly new to the scroll saw. Don't worry about talking to much, my wife tells me that all the time. Thank you for the work that you are doing and most of all, for taking the time to put these together for others to see.

thanks for the video & thanks for sharing your project ideas - I have my moms uncle's woodworking books from the 1940's & that brought back memories of toys he made for my older brothers& sister and he made their toys on a c-arm Scrollsaw - my mom's uncle was the reason I wanted to get into woodworking from the time i was a kid Thanks , Bill M

Hello Bill and many thanks for your comment and relaying your experiences. My grandfather stared doing fretwork during the early 1900's also my Dad was good at the hobby, after WWII he made toys on the Hobbies treadle machine and sold them for a little extra cash (times were hard then) My Uncle was also a woodworker.

I don't know how I missed this when you posted it. Very nice work John! Enjoyed as always. Take care!

Thank you Michael, I was dubious of posting this video as there is no actual work in it and I was concerned it might look like I was bragging.

Nice video John. It really does take me back to my childhood. Dad smoked a pipe and I made him a couple of pipe racks from Hobbies designs also a spill holder. I remember him lighting a spill from our coal fire and the smell of the tobacco smoke. I made mum a trinket box and other things like a letter rack and home sweet home brackets. Keep the videos coming please. Thanks for this one.

Thanks for the kind comments Colin, I never smoked myself but my uncle ( who I was very close too) smoked a pipe which always fascinated me, A man smoking a pipe always seemed to be kindly/safe, all the old Meccano illustrations had a man with a pipe sitting with his children building a crane or something. Both Hobbies and Handicrafts did some lovely pipe rack designs from their early days, Hobbies still doing them in the 1950's.

Wonderful fretwork. I don't see any of that type of woodworking here in the States, so it is a real treat to see your work. My favorites are the whirligigs, though. It doesn't seem to be a big thing here, but they are very cool indeed.

Hi Gary, many thanks for your kind comment. Whirligigs are fun to make and are my most watched videos but I like to do all sorts of things. I dare-say I shall be back on Whirligigs when I get the motivation.

Thanks Alan. I really do want to get my fretwork site up. but it's finding the time and motivation to do it. I did a lot of work on the site but then left it and I am having a problem getting on with it again. Thing is I am only an amateur at doing web sites and dubious that it is not good enough to make it public.

John ,nice work on the designs , that takes a lot of time to do what you did , plus doing the video , along with the holidays , no wonder it has been a month since we have gotten our fix of a new scrimperuk video 😉best wishes for the new years

Thank you Blake. I do quite like recreating the old designs, it is strange that I can spend hours doing designs of trying to repair something yet have zero patience standing in a queue waiting to be served. The hardest part of doing the videos is editing them to remove a lot of my jabbering. The videos often only contain about 1/3rd of what I film.

Very enjoyable vid John, I'm certainly glad you were talked into YouTubing years ago! Home Sweet Home is a very tidy job, a really nice design. Good to see you back 'on the air'.

@@scrimperuk Glad to hear you are OK. I especially enjoy videos where you make things from old wood and various spare parts (bits and bobs in the UK). It probably takes time to come up with an idea that is of interest to you. I'm looking forward to seeing it when you are ready. Be well!
