We came across a dead compressor during a scheduled maintenance call. Compressor ohms out within specifications but trips the breaker when the contractor is engaged.

Amen about zip tying the compressor wires to the suction line. I've got a problem with my 20 year old Trane right now where calls to run the compressor cause the 50 amp fuses in the disconnect box to blow. Looking down in the unit I can see that the install tech zip tied the wiring really tight to the suction line. I haven't verified that's the problem yet, but I can't imagine who would do that... it's just asking for trouble down the line.

Check your “crankcase” heater on those Trane systems. It’ll look like a lamp cord going to the bottom of the compressor, and the heater is a metal cylinder the size of a pencil that inserts into a sleeve on the bottom of the compressor. I find a lot of those causing shorts.

I didn’t think you can pull a vacuum on a scroll compressor?

Glad to see you replaced the junky LG with a Copeland Scroll. Those LG compressors are junk.

@@JesusRomero-lp6zt ahh I understand. This condenser was fairly new, around 5 years old. So the accumulator is still shiny. I’ve only replaced accumulators when I find refrigerant leaking from them. That usually occurs from them rusting through on the bottom side.

Brazing w/o Nitro?

Correct. I am definitely a fan of brazing with a nitrogen flow. Although, I haven’t had success with “flowing” nitrogen through compressors. I do have a video showing the difference on internal surfaces of copper that have been brazed with and without a nitrogen flow. Super clean with nitro.
